IC Lead spacing (pitch) adapters?

...and how to do so...

So I bought this chip off Ebay on a whim. When it got here I realised it was an SDIP 28 through-hole package. This wont fit into my standard breadboard, or stripboard, and is going to make DIY PCB etching a PITA as well. The lead spacing (pitch) seems to be 1.78mm (70mil), so what I need is an adapter to make it fit the standard 2.54mm (100mil).
I have been Googling for 2 hours and can't seem to find such a thing - if it exists. Perhaps I am using the wrong terms or something as I've never needed anything like this before.
Can anybody offer me any advice? Is there a DIY trick/solution?

this seems to be what you need (SDIP to DIP adapter):

or, you have to build yourself something like this: http://www.delorie.com/pcb/r8c-1b-adapter/

hope this helps.

Massive thanks. I dont think I'll be paying $20 for one though - the chip was only $7 to start with. I think I'll adapt that DIY solution - its going to be tricky with the small lead spacing though :/
