Quinto is this tool splitting signal in multibands and spread-panning those freqs in stereo panorama?

Post

I use mics and real rooms as much as I can.

These effects are very useful to me very often:

- I get a synthetic signal, like synth pad, and the stereo image doesn't fit in the mix
- I have received mono recs, I'm not doing the tracking
- I need extremely wide effects, like in some pop music

Not splitting and recombining but in a continuous smooth way

Cool Quinto, that old trick combined into one simple plugin is a nice thing to have. :)

Post

Fritze can you explain us or pm that old trick please :)

Post

Mmhhh, it is not just the old trick of complementary eqs, you cannot do this with a trick!
It is frequency based stereo rotation plus a frequency dependent effect and coming soon an envelope detector (for algorithm B, preserves attacks)

Post

Sound great but are signal mids unchanged after your plugin or are they colored?
What's the difference between this and your Fild plugin?

Post

Mid is untouched. You can test it through that sample. Load it in a track, set the panning to sum to mono and listen while the effect goes in and out.

Fild uses a different algorithm, based on phases. This one is based on frequency dependent stereo rotation.
Fild contains a lot of other things, too. An unique phase equaliser and a complete (up to weird) stereo control section.

Both are mono compatible.

Thanks for explanation :tu:

OK, no complementary eqs.
What is frequency dependent stereo rotation? How are you doing it without a trick? ;)

Post

Well, with "trick" we mean something we can do with basic tools and manually, right?

Examples of tricks:

- load two eqplugins on two identical tracks, pan them to the extreme L and R, draw an eq curve on one and try to draw the complementary cutve on the other one.

- get the same two tracks (identical) and slightly delay one (argh!)

- get a single mono track, insert a stereo delay and set three echoes, panned C L R, in the Haas range (4 - 100ms). The first one is to avoid apparent panning because of precedence effect

- get two identical tracks and insert a phase shifter on one

etc. etc.

This one is an algorithm.

It uses a combination of allpass, stereo rotation, feedback, plus a filtering network (to make it frequency dependent through that freq knob)

It is perfectly mono compatible, no phase shifts, etc.

Sure, you saw my smilie? :D

Sounds very cool, no phase shift, mono compatible, right on!

When? :)

And a second when for the Tape update? :hyper:

Is this a decorrelation-based Stereo Imager ?

Just like A.O.M. Stereo Imager D.

http://aom-factory.jp/products-page/daw ... -imager-d/

Post

No, that one starts from stereo! Wants some side in the input signal.

This one starts from mono (or mixes to mono) and then fakes the stereo. It is not a stereo enhancer like a mid-side balance, it spreads the frequencies in the stereo panorama and in a frequency based way (e.g. mono bass and stereo highs)

Here is a veeery nice example I received.

It is a mono loop.

It is a bit compressed (Bus) and through Roundtone, and it is translated to stereo by means of ThreeD.

It really gets life.

The files are roughly peak matched but the level is not the point.
