all the talk of the jet City got me thinking

I'll let everyone know in about a month or so (sooner if I hate it)
edit: the mounting holes in the cab are well located so that I can get my cordless drill in there with a phillips bit. I was afraid they would be to close to the walls but they put the screws nicely in the corners (they also used machine screws instead of wood screws for mounting).

Bolts/machine screws same thing...threaded screws with threaded inserts as opposed to self tapping wood screwsnix808 wrote:U mean bolts?Hink wrote:(they also used machine screws instead of wood screws for mounting).

SSSHHHHH....Don't tell anyone......

Finally got my hands on one!!
An EX Demo for £680, not bad me thinks. I'm waiting on a 112 cab, so I could only test it through a PA Speaker, which apart from the clean channel (understandably) sounded crap. The headphones out actually sounded very decent, the gain on the Red channel is insane (in a very good way) with the gain only between 12 and 1 oclock. Cant wait to get playing it through a cab
, I'll do a proper NAD post with a better pic shortly after the cab arrives.

Just a wee update.
This amp put a big dent in the bank balance so I couldn't afford the matching cab, so I ordered a cheapo 112 Harley Benton from Thomann. The cab arrived today so I could finally crank the amp up with the help of my other purchase from Thomann, a Koch DummyLoad Attenuator. WOW!! this amp sounds awesome even through a very cheap 112 cab & attenuator (not so good with the attenuator set to 1%) The clean channel has almost fender amp chimeyness & warmth, it breaks up nicely with almost full gain & volume. The crunch channel sounds great for playing anything from Hendrix right up to Hard Rock. But my favourite channel is definitely the high gain channel, its absolutely amazing for modern Heavy Metal or Djent. I cant see why anyone would ever need to use an overdrive/distortion pedal with this amp. Its a very high gain channel but never gets too muddy or fuzzy even at very low volumes & it really loves pinch harmonics.
After only ever owning Solid state or modelling amplifiers until now, I can finally see why so many guitarist love their valve amps. I think I'm hooked now too

What Hink said, It will bring you many years of joy
The harley benton cabs whilst price wise not expensive and lacking dove jointed corner construction and not as fancy birch ply wood and some other fancier stuff usually pack a decent speaker inside which makes them really good for the price (I could be wrong but I think its a Celestion G12 Vintage 30 they use and its a great speaker I find FWIW)

Thanks, I hope so because I don't plan on getting another one anytime soon. Although it'd be nice to have one of those small Orange Jim Root Terrors
Thomann did do a 112 Harley Benton with a celestion v30 but now they only come with a no name Chinese speaker, which actually sounds pretty good for £55. They still do a 212 with v30's for an unbelievably low price of around £155, I was gonna go for that but if I do eventually get a 212 cab I'll get the EVH one.

update on the speaker change...talking with a friend who has a lot of knowledge on tube amps he made some good points about the celestions I have. But when I first tried it it was weak and fuzzy to my ears, there's that contrast popping up again...next time do not swap speakers after a couple of hours of playing. I was reminded by my good friend that the speaker is very nice because of it's lack of efficiency and tbh that was what I found. I figured it would be the opposite because the JC speaker is 16 ohms and the celestion is 8 ohms. The next day I backed off on the attenuator and swapped out the 6L6 I was using for a power tube and put in an EL34...the one that shipped with my new Frenzel (yes, I was using the new Frenzel).
I did not like the EL34 much when I got the Frenzel, but with this speaker it was a great match. My friend also had some insight on whether the iso cab is boxy and suggested similar to what I said and that was put some insulation under the speaker if it does begin to sound boxy.
This is why my iso cab design would have adjustable baffles and be able to add or remove insulation. I'm going to pull the speaker and shove a pillow under it to see what my results are just for fun
