Examigan, are you any closer to a decision? My guess is "both". :hihi:
No, not yet, it might end up just being a price thing. If I see Minimonsta on a real good sale 2nd hand, or I might just get Saurus as it is priced well already.

It would be great to just get both and get it over with. :hihi:

I have been putting off geting Minimonsta for a long time though..so if it came down to just one...

Well? Are you?!?!?!?>!>!?!?!?!?

In all seriousness, and with respect to Marcus, I want to go read through that, because it's a "thing" that I think is not without precedent IM(not personal)E. It may be inconsequential to some, but it's important to me.
If I were to really give some critique in this thread about the UI, presets and such, I would get you guys pissing all over the place again, even though I may consider looking past them and getting it anyway. Basically you guys act like any criticism is unwarranted, and that is ridiculous. Everything can be improved upon and just because I happen to own Diva too doesn't mean I should hold my tongue about it, but I hold off to keep you guys from having aneurysms. You should thank me for that :P
I'll say it for you then, being an unbiased bystander without the apparent history of the half dozen of you… I quite like the UI in general except for the matrix. I agree w/ ariston on that. In fact, it literally took me about 30 seconds to find it, once I started to look. No lie.

Speaking of which, what purpose does the giant keyboard on the bottom serve, except to confirm to the user that they are, indeed, looking at the UI of a software synthesizer, as opposed to, say, a toaster oven or a Cuisinart? All 3 matrix tabs + arp could fit nicely down there… at least make it an option to expand out the arp and matrix sections.

While we're talking matrix… the modifier value is a nice idea, but why limit it to a single value? Perhaps to limit the possible variable/function combinations, I'm sure… but it seems to me a very simple "calculator" lexer/parser supporting +, -, *, /, ( ), etc. and a limited set of functions… sin, cos, tan, log, etc. … could give the user the ability to literally modify any matrix param in almost unlimited ways with even a fixed number of vars (x,y,z, for example). Anyway, would be a nice upgrade...

As for the rest: as I said, I actually like the layout and the knobs, though I agree it does consume some real estate, and I wouldn't complain if a trimmed down 75% view were available. Other than that, the contrast is good, text easy to read, the colors are basic but easy on the eyes, and even the fake LEDs are not overly annoying compared to the fake LEDs of other products. :)

Haven't you heard of the mouse musicians, those who perform all their tracks by clicking on the virtual keyboard? When they're at a loss for inspiration or feeling down, they stroke the wooden side panels with their mouse pointer. When they're feeling adventurous, they might even play a glissando or two. Where would they be if that would suddenly disappear? They'd be helpless!

Well, if you had tried then you'd know that you can't even do *that*!! Had to play all my glissandi on the vsthost keyboard. Talk about redundant mouse input… man oh man!!!

Not to derail my own thread :hihi: but that WAS one I considered before narrowing it down to just 2.
I thought the upgrade from my copy of impOSCar (1st version) was a little much though. $94...but actually that's cheaper than either synth I am looking at :?

Reeaaalllllyyyy…. you wanna p!ss some people off, don't buy either Saurus or Diva after all this… just go in a totally different direction, like "hey, what's everybody's favorite SID emulator?"…

No, I am sticking with one of those 2 synths :)

and I didn't even mention that other synth

ImpOSCar 2 is one of the synths where i wanted to look deeper into programming in the near future. As there are alraedy tons of presets available for Imp 1 and 2 doing really new ones is not too easy. BTW i upgraded from version 1 too.
