Yes, and we're going to twist your taste back to 70's progressive rock scene. We never really got over missing that one almost completely. Things are falling into place!!!

You make that sound like a good thing. :hihi:
Ha ha. Ok. Opinion: I think it's tragic. We could altogether skip the nations and go for songs representing the different elements in the periodic table instead. :-)

I think Sweden is one of the only countries that can afford to host it at the moment. :hihi:

On the other hand, Ireland is broke right now, that has to be why they sent Jedward 2 years in a row.

ruslan.st wrote:I like the winner song. Maybe it is a little bit generic, but overall it is very well designed. There were very few such consistent, well balanced songs in terms of melody, arrangement, performance in contest. It allows to concentrate attention on performance and remember the song.
Therefore the Swedish producers are known - to make a little bit generic, but overall well designed songs...good songwriting, but not necessarily the best of the world.

Roxette, Army of Lovers, Dr. Alban, Ace of Base, Rednex...okay, that's the old skool list...

The other extreme was "Engelbert Humperdinck" - I nearly didn't heard any instrumentation, it was just to demonstrate his (old-fashioned) voice! If he had been Tom Jones, he could have won, but Sir Dorsey's voice isn't that spectacular to fill out the whole song.

Kommer Japansk musik också från Sverige?

Englebert has said in the 60's he was often offered songs that had been turned down by Tom Jones.

Another thought came to me: Maybe it's because of the cold weather in Sweden! They can't go outside (except in summer), so they're sitting at home with their instruments and computers, study arrangement and write good songs...

Could it be so?

Nope. We're not afraid of the cold. We're quite good at winter sports too contrary to the Brits for example.

Well, that doesn't explain why we in Norway suck at songwriting. With a few exceptions (Stargate, Lind and a few more) it's pretty much Deliverance (although not as cool). :D

I think Sweden deserved to win. Didn't sound like a Eurovision song at all. Some may find it boring, but quality work nonetheless.
But ESC contributions is more and more depending on marketing before the competition. I didn't know Euphoria was an ESC song before I saw it in the semifinal. I had heard it on the radio a 1000 times though so it was already in my head. And its more likely that you vote for a song you've heard before than one you hear for the first time in the final. Like the Serbian one, which also was a good song.

Maybe it's because there are much more stormy winds in Norway than in Sweden, so even the best arrangements wave away... :o

I think the song he had was turned down by a lot more people than just Tom Jones...

and once again, my favourite went totally under the radar:

i guess, i must have a strange taste. sweden also was good, though. i would have ranked them second to macedonia.
