Reasons for bying an Andriod Tablet instead of an iPad for net communication?

Unless your wife is intending to run real time audio (multitrack recording, softsynths, etc) there isn't any latency on android.IncarnateX wrote: And do they have lesser latency than Android?
For web browsing, email, social media, netflix, youtube type stuff it's simply not an issue.
However if she wants an ipad, I doubt she'll be happy with a "cheap imitation".
Regardless how good, fast, open, customisable or expensive it is.

Android wise, the ARCHOS G series (namely 80 and up) is a killer - dual CPU, similar resolution like the iPad2, with camera on front for Skype. If you only need it for the internet, this is more than suitable and cheaper than the Samsung Galaxy series. And you can upgrade the memory with SD cards, soomething the "apple" can not.
It's also fair priced - at least over here: 160-180EUR street
Alternative might be hitting GameStop online, they sell used iPads between 250 and 350 bucks. They're usually flushed and updated prior to selling. I asked at a store recently since I was speculating with a unit like that myself.
If the apps you're using are also available on Android, maybe give your wife the eye-pad and stick to someting that is not as expensive, should it break or run out of support? Especially if you don't use the internet through means of a simcard.
Just a guess - the apple destroyed peace in eden once already, it did so in the Assassins Creed series. Don't let yourself be fooled by the apple - apples are full of vitamins, vitamins are bad for your body.
...especially if you're histamin intolerant.

Caustic reports a latency of 16ms. I think that's 10x less than Android.IncarnateX wrote:Cool. Do you know any in the same price range that has a screen about the size of the iPad? And do they have lesser latency than Android?BertKoor wrote:BB Playbook !!!
New $212.95 or $190, used $150.
Screen size of the Playbook is not an issue actually. Screen resolution is 1024x600, comparable with that of the iPad2. Pixels are a bit smaller though, because it's 7" instead of 10". Still the screen looks twice the size than that of my bedroom TV.

Yeah the Tab 2 is great for what she needs, and she might really like the smaller size too. the problem with getting the iPad 1 is that the minute she wants to try Skype, she's SOL.

If it were not for music apps, I'd prefer an android tablet. I find the lack of a file system on the iPad to be extraordinarily irritating. It's really annoying to have to move .pdf files from reader to reader.

Both the BB Playbook or any powerful enough Android tablet that runs Android 4.0 (ICS) like the one quote by UltraJV will have browsers with tile-based rendering. This is the same trick used on iOS to achieve smooth pinch/zoom browsing. (If that's what you mean by latency here). Both can do Flash in browser.

An iPad is a fashion accessory in a way. It is a name.
An Andriod is a piece of technology.
And we all know about fashion & women

My wife says "What's yours is mine and what's mine is mine!" Luckily she's not interested in my GAS.
Whatever you do, don't get one of those cheap Chinese Android tablets. I got one for the kids to use (instead of using my laptop) and, whilst hey are happy with it, I find it infuriatingly slow sometimes even though the spec is supposed to be quite good. Mind you, it only cost £80.

If your wife likes Sudoku and/or Solitaire card games, the best ones I found are on Android.
Andoku Sudoku 2 Free (also on PlayBook)
Solitaire MegaPack by Tesseract Mobile or the Solitaire Free Pack also by Tesseract Mobile.

Yes this may well be what I mean by latency here. For instance, I have an Discount Android Phone, a Medion, and while it fulfill all my personal needs, it doesn't feel as smooth to operate as my iPad, like if there is a tiny delay whenever I scroll the screen.SingleCell wrote:Both the BB Playbook or any powerful enough Android tablet that runs Android 4.0 (ICS) like the one quote by UltraJV will have browsers with tile-based rendering. I'll will check all suggestions. Thanks guys.

Don't be fooled by your "discount android phone". People buy $200 Android phones and expect them to perform as good as the $700 iPhone or iPad (those are the prices here in Cyprus anyway) which is crazy and totally unrealistic.IncarnateX wrote: For instance, I have an Discount Android Phone, a Medion, and while it fulfill all my personal needs, it doesn't feel as smooth to operate as my iPad, like if there is a tiny delay whenever I scroll the screen.
In comparing Android to iOS you should really compare a high-end Android model (eg. Samsung Galaxy S II [or S III very soon

I am not fooled by my discount phone that is why a mentioned it was discount (Actually it might a piece of that Cheap Chinese models someone reffered to in the above, a ZTE SKATE with Medion Firmware). Point is rather that my wife will probably not have an Android Tablet with any of that kind of delay, so suggestions should not include anything like it.TristezaOrange wrote:Don't be fooled by your "discount android phone". In comparing Android to iOS you should really compare a high-end Android model (eg. Samsung Galaxy S II [or S III very soon] or HTC One S/X) to the latest iOS model. Those models don't lag, don't crash and they generally don't give a sh*t!

Besides from running FLASH do anyone else know some benefits of Android Tablets?
