Hi,
i just wanted to ask, if there is any looper app (or a suggestion for developers), that is similar to awesome ThumbJam but that is able to control midi instruments?
I would like this app to be able to record drum loop in realtime, that can be played back for example on modrum..
and then i'd like to play a synth loop with sunrizer, nlog, or even with external hardware devices.. all controlled by on looper app over coremidi.
Perfect for jam sessions or stage use..
I think many musicians would love such an app? What do you think?

Genome midi sequencer is kind of like what you want. I'm still getting to grips with it as I only got it Friday but the things it does are cool. I think you can use something like thumbjam as a midi-in setup and record and route to whatever you want.
Either way I managed to set it up to play Animoog, arctic keys, my Mopho and to start DM-1 which then started my other iPad via WIST!!!
Happy day

I only have an iphone..Thats the problem.
I use ThumbJam a lot, and i'd love it to have midi output..

Hi,
Sorry to say what you want doesn't exist AFAIK. Closest would be genome which u know is iPad only. There are audio looper options that can work in the background, my fave being Loopy HD, but no love for virtual midi sequencers for iPhone / itouch peeps..

I am not sure about drum loops but I know Thumbjam can internally record Midi data when you are recording parts in Thumbjam. See this thread on the Thumbjam forums:
http://thumbjam.com/node/610
As you will see in the discussions, the recent update added a "open-in" option for the Midi data recorded when you are using the looper. Not altogether sure this will work, but worth a try before you buy another app.

@Guaranath thank you for the information. I will try out the midi recording feature, but i thing its recording only. You can export the recorded Midi by a midi file as far i know.
I started a discussion in the thumbjam forum (feature requests), and maybe these featueres will be there in future..I hope there will be other useres requesting such a feature in the thread..and maybe we will be heared

I use Beatmaker 2 for exactly that.lq_sunshine wrote:Hi,

Loop a Live played MIDI for my MicroKorg and also use internal Drusamples of BM2.
BM2 even sends MIDI Clock to external devices that have an own sequencer like a drummachine or a xoxbox.
You can also send internal MIDI to sunrizer or whatever, but I do't do that.
Plus you can sync BM2 via WIST to other WIST apps on another iOS device.
I think the App you are looking for already exists

Thank you four your advices..
i have nlog and i will try my luck.
Beatmeaker 2 seems to have this functionality, but its a more complex software-its a full blown sequencer workstation.
Why there isnt there a simple midi looper in style of Loopy or thumbjam. Just someting that is made for loops and phrases. Just made for realtime jamming with only few setup and routing.
What i'd like to see is a simple loop recorder where i can add new loops with just hitting one button and then jam araound.. and add new loops.
i think i have to learn coding

it's easy with BM2, give it at try.
Just set up a project template with a couple of empty tracks that have MIDI routings already the way you need it and then you press only two times to switch between them.
Ignore the other functions of BM2 if you don't need them.

I had forgotten about BM2, but that'll do everything the OP wants. Coding & coding midi will take much, much longer indeed..Guaranath wrote:Learning to use BM2 will be easier than learning coding

Are you sure Thumbjam does not do this? The version 2.1 notes indicate that midi data along with the recorded audio are stored when looping, does it just not playback the midi data in realtime? If not, I would drop a note to the developer. They are always making the software more powerful.
