You want to use the Rhodes as almost a king of smooth pad?
I've always used it as a percussive melodic instrument - the Rhodes really can get pretty muddy sounding unless the chords are pretty simple and in the upper mid register.

Well, not really as a pad, but yeah, I don't want it to get the percussive, mallet emphasis.

I didn't dig on the overloud FX at all.
What I've been finding is ubermod is pretty SWEET, especially if you set as a buss. You can easily get some lush sounding rhodes action

You mean the last one or the ones that were clearly overdriven?
Ubermod sounds cool I might give it a try. "As a bus" you mean not as a send effect right?
