Yeah, at $90 I had to buy. I already had Sampletron and that alone was well worth more than $90 to me. Getting ST2.5, SampleMoog, Miroslav Strings, Sonic Synth 2 and Sampletron for $90 was too easy haha.

+1

Iphone/Ipad thing seems to be IKM's big thing. They seem to be happy flogging dead horses.
Dead horses? The key to understanding it is to know that iPad adoption, while slowing, is still growing faster than any other platform. For a while the growth curve was darn near exponential, which is irresistible from either a marketing or a product development standpoint. How do you figure the horse died?

Funkybot's Evil Twin wrote:What does Sample Tank do for people that couldn't be done better by Kontakt with the stock library? I'm seriously curious. Everything I used to use Sampletank for ("this track would sound good with a glockenspiel") I've got to Kontakt for. At least for natural sounds. For everything else, there's either synths or individual plugins, all of which end up sounding better than Sample Tank in the first place.

What am I not getting here? Is it ease of use/workflow? Do people really like the sounds that much? The built in effects?
As I mentioned elsewhere, I think that a lot of the IK stuff just has more character and charm. They're not the glossiest, most hyper-real VIs I own, but that's not their strong suit anyway. I also use Kontakt and other VIs for lots of things, or layer all of it. But yeah, the speed of tweaking the ADSR, filters, LFOs, velocity and the NICE IK based effects from one screen is a really big plus for me.

I occasionally hear ST/TW2 called dated here, but that's just because many of the instruments and sounds they set out to recreate are from a classic era in music. Lots of the basses, keys, guitars and synths name check artists or songs from the sixties and seventies. I love all that stuff, and know how to sculpt it into something very modern, but I know that's not for everyone.

And while Samplemoog is an INCREDIBLE library of Moogs that are very accurate to the instruments, kids coming up on big virtual one-note wonders say meh while I'm still blown away to have all that vintage wonder under my fingers.

So youngsters, I'll come out and say it. Yes, that free synth you downloaded may sound bigger, better, fatter than some of the synths in TW2. Great, mix it all up, it really is all good!

But for overall depth and breadth, it's a really strong package, that with a little work, can sound as good as anything out there.

You hit the nail on the head here! This is my love side of my love and hate relationship with Sampletank.
It's got a great classic feel. My current track is made up of sampletank strings and boy, does it sound motown. I've failed to replicate them using other libraries.
If you want that 60's, 70's and 90's RnB vibe, you can't go wrong with sampletank!

To me, both the SampleTank interface and the samples are good. But creating or importing a multisample is almost impossible. The situation is strange. They created a good interface and reduced the standard set of controls to make multisamples simple for people who had no knowledge of Ensoniq or Kurzweil hardware or VSampler (they came in just as NI and Kontakt and Gigsasample were becoming a force), but they just dropped the ball. A cumbersome way of loading samples. No ability to load other formats.

My impression is that they don't realize that they can do relatively simple things, allowing the import of sf2's and Kontakt files and including more stages in the envelopes, to create a serious platform. The initial idea seems to have been to create a proprietary platform, but there are too many good instruments in other formats, so why cling to that idea?

One thing to remember is that these sounds will be compatible with future generations of SampleTank. Newer versions will have new sound libraries, new features and will provide even more than you think, but the sounds are classic and will work in the future as well.

For the price, The Total Workstation Group Buy is hard to beat! Today is the last day and we are only 19 away from TWO free Xpansion Tank Titles too!

I could see this sale being appropriate with a "hey sampletank 3 is coming next month, buy it now etc. etc.." The fact it's taken this long, makes me think it's never coming..lol yet we know it is..
hey IK how about an update as to whats going on with the new app, what features will it have, some audio demo's?? or are we still in the sampling phase?
as you can see,we are ready for some better news..
90 bucks is cheap,but if I can't use it without glasses,it's pointless!!

FIX THE GUI :x

Not sure how to get the $90 promo code. I liked IK on facebook and nothing happened. Would really like to get in on this!

Edit: I also liked the TW2 page and nothing happened there either

So many hoops, IMO they should just put it on sale for $90 and be done with it, I think so many just get frustrated trying to figure out how to get what essentially is open to anyone. It would be much better PR if IK didn't play these sorts of games.
If you have requests for Korg VST features or changes, they are listening at https://support.korguser.net/hc/en-us/requests/new

Hey bb, I don't know if you already know this, but there are three controls on the far right side of the ST GUI, Col (color), Lum (luminance) and Sat (saturation), that let you change the background color. I've got mine a very pale 50's Chevy aqua, and it makes long sessions MUCH easier. Even though the type stays the same size, it's so much better!

Give it a shot!

And ironflippy, that promo ended tuesday night, and $90 was the crossgrade price, otherwise, it was $120 without a registered IK product. It was supposed to end monday night but they gave it a day's grace period. But on the upside, it looks as if the TW2 GB will reach 2nd tier tonight, so picking out two $49 Xpansion Tanks COULD take a little sting out! :)

And if you buy at eSoundz.com, they'll double the Xpansion tanks, so you can pick out 4!!! The deal ends there today too...

Thanks! I own Amplitube and T-Racks, so I'd be eligible for the crossgrade. Shame I missed the $90 deal. From eSoundz, is it a download, or box?

Post

It's a download, IF. You'll buy from eSoundz, get your serial number, then go to the IK site and register, then download your VIs and your first two Xpansion Tanks there. Then send Allen at eSoundz an email and he'll hook you up with the other two from their site, also downloads.

It's been mentioned here several times but bears repeating: once you download your stuff at IK, you have thirty days until they "deactivate". So make your extra hard drive copies or data DVDs within that month!

The stuff you get from eSoundz will be in your account for 24 hr. download forever and ever, amen!

Don't forget to refer someone at checkout at eSoundz, it's at the very bottom of the checkout screen and ALWAYS makes my day.

Here's a list of KVR folks, or my eSoundz member name is in my signature.

It's an EXCELLENT buy, even at the crossgrade price!

Mmmm… hate to come off as the turd in the punchbowl here, but if you want a good deal on ST 2.5, just wait. Seriously, ST and related products go on sale like 4 times per year, every year… I will eat my hat, or some reasonable facsimile thereof, if ST and it's brethren aren't part of some "last chance" blowout sale… I say August timeframe… you know, "End of Summer Blowout Sale!!!"… or perhaps "Back to School Mega Group Buy!!!"...

Hey kb,

I hear ya! But honestly, I'm a HUGE comparison after the fact shopper, and the TW2 deal is the best it's been in two years.

I picked all the TW2 instruments in a GB for $99 back then, and I think the response to get all five surprised lots of folks. (maybe even IK!)

I'm not saying it might not get better, but usually the early summer GBs are the crazy ones. And TW2 with two $49 libraries (4 at eSoundz.com!) for $149 is an incredible deal!

People might compare sampletank sounds to the ones in kontakt - fine. I've owned both over the time and I've always used sampletank cause I've had to eq way less due to the fact that Sonic Reality know how to sample...it's not just about sound design, and that's something that can be done after the fact through 3rd party plugins. Not that I wouldn't mind more creative tools within sampletank.
