Hi JD. It is steaming and teaming over there. No idea what the musical content's like, I was too busy chatting with people! But yes, if you have the time to spare and the inclination to share your creative juices with ... well, just about anyone who is anyone (with Ohm Studio), give it a go!

I'm encountering many "this library is not on your computer" errors. That's a shame...(Kontakt)

Personally I find this having a lot of potential as a final mixing stage collaborative platform. I'm not (yet) that interested in using this to produce something from scratch, as I prefer to work with the tools I have already mastered and have built a lot of useful custom stuff in. (Of course I often enjoy experimenting with new stuff, but I guess you get what I mean
)
However, when the track is quite ready (in the DAW of your choice) you can export stems, import them into this thing, and then go over the mix with someone else. You know, someone in an entirely different room somewhere, judging mixing decisions with you, tweaking collaboratively in near-realtime. Instead of "just a second, let me get back to you on that, I'll send another version" you can just say "ok I'll pull this thing down 2dB, there, and how about..." etc. Sounds genuinely useful.

That's the problem with using sample libraries for collaboration: you need to collaborate with people with those libraries... However, tracks can be frozen so you can at least hear them.synchronizer wrote:I'm encountering many "this library is not on your computer" errors. That's a shame...(Kontakt)

with all due respect, without an offline mode this is not for me.Fire Sledge - Ohm Force wrote:An offline mode was planned first (and we have partial one for debugging), but it came with a lot of non-trivial technical issues and needs work that could have nipped the whole Ohm Studio development in the bud, so we chose to skip this feature for now.

I like the idea to collaborate online but when I produce on my own, the internet is switched off, otherwise I get distracted by forums and such things
Will check your product every now and then and see if offline is integrated, keep up the good work.

My Brothers quick review:
Real-time capabilities not as good as I naively thought they would be but still, the potentials there to quickly lay down a loop and for other participants to start messing round and build upon it. Would be very cool if we were all plugged in at the same time and say, Al uploaded some beats and then we get in there with some synth/guitar/bass.
No support for audio units which makes sense as VST is on both PC and Mac.
Even if you don't have a particular plug in, it's very easy to bounce and share.
I didn't have any problems logging in or anything like that, maybe traffic was reduced or they tweaked their servers.
Depending on the price, I would be very interested. Very easy to jump in and mess around with random people. Kind of feels like the Facebook of DAWs if you know what I mean (I imagine that line's now killed any interest you had).
Fingers crossed, others will see the potential in this and we will see some online collaboration features in Logic or Live.

You do know that this product was always meant to be an online collaborative host right?darsho wrote:with all due respect, without an offline mode this is not for me.Fire Sledge - Ohm Force wrote:An offline mode was planned first (and we have partial one for debugging), but it came with a lot of non-trivial technical issues and needs work that could have nipped the whole Ohm Studio development in the bud, so we chose to skip this feature for now.

It's been in the works for a while now. From the beginning it was meant for online collaboration. If they just made 'another offline DAW', how is it different from anything else out there?
It's intended to be an elegant and easy solution for online collaboration. There was a video some time ago that showed it in action and the concept back then was pretty cool.

The folks who want the offline capabilities are missing the point. Ohm Force competeing in that market would have a really long row to hoe. Their marketable "feature" is the online collaboration and they should continue to focus the majority of their efforts on THAT, not at designing yet another offline DAW. This should be a tool that facilitates people working together on collaboration of ideas whether they be mixing, arrangement or songwriting concepts in real time. And by competing in that arena they remain (for the time being) unchallenged because there really isn't anything else quite like it.
Offline mode isn't necessary. If you need an offline DAW then use whichever one you already use. Export and import into Ohm Studio when you want/need someone else to work on the project with you. It's an online tool designed for real-time collaboration...CLEARLY.

Actually I think you are missing the point. I think most people do get it that it is a tool for online collaboration. However there are always going to be times (as I discovered the first time I tried to open it) when it is not possible to access the servers for various reasons and at those times being told by the app the servers are not available, therefore goodbye, is not an acceptable option. It is possible for the app to be clearly positioned as an online collaborative tool without forcing people to put up with not being able to use it when the connection is down.Gizzmo0815 wrote:Thank you audiobot! One of the reasons a 'net connection is required is so that all edits are updated in the master project on the server, and the edits are seen by all users.
Otherwise you might end up in a situation where your net connection is not working (or you forget you are working in offline mode), and then make lots of changes to a track.
When you get back online, the other people working on the project suddenly see the whole song structure has changed. Or the amazing vocal take from yesterday has mysteriously disappeared ... etc.
Peace,
Andy.

I see it this way. This is what MMO to singleplayer game is. The fun part of the DAW is supposed to be the online collab, not the singleplayer part. If they make it offline capable it will be the same like playing World Of Warcraft singleplayer, it is an inferior RPG compared to normal single player RPG.
It's very lacking as an offline DAW, we shouldn't even bother to try it if it's just for the offline use. But bring the online part in it and then you have some fun. Last night i was fooling around with 2 friend on 1 project and it's fun.
And yes, the server can go down for a while. That's the price that we have to pay for online usage, no online service is bulletproof to downtime.

I think it's a great idea and I'm looking forward to messing around with it this weekend.
Maybe now I can find some other people who's style is similar to mine.

I think the idea of ohm studio is brilliant! Those who likes mixing can probably make a few golden coins .. (as i HATE doing that
). That goes for arranging too
With the reference to MMO's .. will it be a subscription payed host?

In order to push the limits of this app I'm calling on you guy's to please deliberately rip, mash and morph this simple groove:

I don't care what is there already I'd like to see how this work's, it would be fun and informative at the same time, Thankx in advance.
