So does NI have a policy about re-sales of downloads or not?

Very frustrating topic to get to the bottom of. Like a lot of folks here, I've got a few NI licenses that have become redundant because of Komplete or Ultimate ownership. But because they were download products, the rule has been that you can't re-sell them.
Or is it?
A recent marketplace post has a few downloads which have apparently been authorized by NI. No special circumstances, etc., just given the green light to re-sell. So how do I (or you) get that same deal? Is it now their policy to permit this?
Mind you, I don't care what the policy is, I just want to know if there is one at all. What are the rules here?
ew? Anyone?
Cheers

you'll probably only get more speculation here - just ask them directly if you're interested, or try their support forum. with luck, the subject has been completely covered there.

I'm in the same boat. Had NI downloads and then purchased Komplete 8. Called NI in Germany and got a big no no for download re sales.
I think NI need to change their download policy concerning customers who have purchased Komplete (with the same software as a previous purchase), otherwise, its money down the drain.

They have shot themselves in the foot with me. Im a big NI fan and bought from K4 upto K8Ultimate.
Now the issue is Ultimate has a lot of duplicate products that I had purchased as addons (downloads) but purchase. Now I have doubles of a lot of stuff but cant resale.
So my policy is now I dont buy the addons. Simple.
Their loss and my loss....neither Ni win or I win.
Policy needs changing...its all serial numbers anyway.

Unfortunately, the "call them and see if they'll approve you" solution is no solution at all. How is that a policy? What do you have to do to get on their good side? Part my hair on the left instead of the right? Wear nicer shoes?
Seriously, how can you run a business on "I don't know, we'll see how it goes?" Customers need to be able to rely on consistent policies.
It's one thing if this is a small dev trying to figure out a business model, but this is the mighty NI, one of the biggest devs on the planet.
And the EULA apparently is of no help here since it appears to change at will, or is at least open to more interpretation than the Bible.

FWIW, it IS covered there. Or so I thought. I've looked into this a few times, and I thought the answer was a pretty clear NO, unless there were some extreme circumstances. But now it seems that more than a few folks have, without hesitation, been able to just list and re-sell.sopulurn wrote:you'll probably only get more speculation here - just ask them directly if you're interested, or try their support forum. with luck, the subject has been completely covered there.
So, after all these years as an NI customer, and the thousands spent on their (IMHO excellent) products, how do I not qualify to be able to just list and re-sell those licenses that I no longer need? Is there an NI 'cool kids' club that geeks like me can't join?

The policy is a clear no. I tried to sell FM8, or at least hand it to a friend. Thankfully FM8 was ALL I bought, and I did buy FM8 and Komplete at a discount, so it ended up being a complete wash in the end. No big loss.
I love their products to death though, so I can live with this.

That's where I'm at as well. I'd like to buy their funk-guitar library but I know that I'll eventually upgrade Komplete, so I don't see the point. Fortunately for me, I have very few addons and the ones that I have were purchased at an extreme discount largely with coupons.MFXxx wrote: So my policy is now I dont buy the addons. Simple.

So if it's a clear no, who are these people that are selling their downloads?PraxisCat wrote:The policy is a clear no.

Not a clear no. Like others, I was able to sell a downloaded NI product. It seems the official policy is no re-sells of downloaded products, but a few slip through the cracks. So roll the dice and email NI a "deregister my plugin" request, see if it works.

The last thing I was told (a few months back when I was going to sell the mouth) was that you could sell only non-powered by products. e.g. you can sell massive, fm8, etc downloads, but you cannot sell something like razor or the mouth which is 'powered by reaktor'. So kontakt/reaktor/gr addons you cant sell
Like others have said, that basically means I wont ever buy another powered-by product now that I own komplete

I have bought and sold multiple second hand NI plugins during last two years without problems. All of them downloadable. Also got permission to deregister 3rd party Kontakt libs that used service center.
Might depend where you live at. I asked about keeping software that came bundled with hardware, lady in the phone asked where I live and after hearing I'm from Finland she said it's ok.

Dude in the other thread is selling Reflektor (powered by GR) and Berlin Piano (Kontakt sample instrument), so it doesn't seem like the 'powered by' explanation will work.ezelkow1 wrote:The last thing I was told (a few months back when I was going to sell the mouth) was that you could sell only non-powered by products. e.g. you can sell massive, fm8, etc downloads, but you cannot sell something like razor or the mouth which is 'powered by reaktor'. Still searching for an answer . . .

I contacted NI a few months ago and they said that I could sell Absynth and Guitar Rig, but not Reflektor and The Mouth because they are download only products.
