How do you use AAS Strum Electric?

That sounds way cool! How about using JamStix for this? It outputs MIDI, and it's on sale right now too!

I have been meaning to set something up like that so I can write the right hand pattern independent of the piano roll, I should try using iDrum for that (oops iDrum doesn't output midi, need something else)

That's an interesting idea I tried Jamstix before but was a little frustrated probably because of the demo limitations and didn't 'get it' really. But it would add randomness.

EDIT: After trying StepChild, which works fine, I think it actually an extra 'step' that maybe just be better handled by using the piano roll. Jamstix or something that does something more than just the sequencing ie. randomization/humanization may be better but they also may be weird and not very guitar-like. I am thinking of getting Tattoo at some point, it also has randomization features and works as a step sequencer, I wonder how that would do (though of course no demo from AudioDamage to try it out).

One thing about Strum in general, when you use the piano roll to trigger anything, you need to nudge all notes forward just a little, especially the strums because a guitarist plays just a little before the beat typically.

You mean instead of using a step sequencer, it is better to use the piano roll for the guitar strums? The chords I could insert manually or maybe use ToneSpace for it...

But then I switched the onboard amp and the effects off, and I tried it with SHRED - and, whooow, it sounded incredibly indescribably inimitably...great!! THAT sounds like a real guitar!!:D

With what amp and effects do you like it most?

The onboard amp isn't up to much. I tried it with NI Guitar Rig and it sounded pretty good. I also added Klanghelm compressor and the Audiffex amp/eq to warm it up a bit. I think many different combinations of FX would improve the sound. Some of the presets sound like the real thing to my non-guitar trained ears.

Sugar-Bytes Guitarist (which I used to own and want to get again at some point) is more a guitar sequencer, it isn't for live play, but has a good pattern sequencer and midi output so it can drive other guitar plugins if you don't like its voicing. It is more like a drum machine really for guitars, but it is very cool and has a Steampunk vibe to it and lots of decent patterns to get you started. But again, if you want to PLAY guitar from your keyboard, it isn't gonna do that. Strum is definitely a player's tool IMO, I bought it after owning Guitarist because I wanted something that would be an instrument not just a sequencer. But if you plan to sequence it is more powerful probably. It definitely needs an external amp though, Strum can get by with something decent if mediocre but but Guitarist sounds pretty harsh. But used with a good plugin it sounds very very good.

Yes it does.
You can just drag the midi file to the track, and turn off the "slave" function.
You can do this with individual drum tracks on separate tracks in your daw, for individual processing of drum parts too.
edit: I believe the midi file is dragged out of the idrum gui from the bottom right corner...see it?

You can export a midi file by drag and drop, I do that every day but the VST doesn't send out its midi to other devices, so it wouldn't work in real time to drive aother plugin.

AFAIK you can import a MIDI file in Strum Electric (for the loop player), but it doesn't output MIDI data.
