Using Caustic 2 to sketch ideas on my phone. The results are great.
Wonder whether my advice worth a penny? Check my music at Soundcloud and decide for yourself.

Actually yeah, GB for ios projects open right up in Logic. So yes, I just keep working on them.Kriminal wrote:really? so you run your usual host and all your synths and fx on that tablet do you? you can take the project straight to your workstation computer and continue with the project with no problems at all???polaris20 wrote: As you're well aware, no shitbox PC laptop that costs $499 will have battery life worth a damn, nor be as portable as a tablet.
If you're serious about audio, why are you buying a laptop? Build or buy a powerful workstation.
If you want to be entertained, or sketch some ideas on the plane or train, a tablet is a lot better than a laptop.
didnt think so.

Caustic 2 has been the best option for me to create music on the go. Audio Evolution is also a great app and am looking forward for the author to add MIDI sequencing.
Anyone who's recommending a laptop without at least answering the OP's question should just ignore this thread. This is a forum about mobile apps and hardware (specifically phones and tablets), if all you can do is recommend a laptop then you have no business here.

Which laptop is 1.5 pounds or less? Which laptop has 10+ hours of battery life? You seem to be making the mistake (along with other posters here on a regular basis) that because a tablet doesn't fit your needs and preferences, that it isn't a useful tool over a laptop for anyone.Kriminal wrote:such as?el-bo (formerly ebow) wrote: there are great benefits to using a tablet over a laptop

I have a workstation. I have a 4.5 pound laptop. However when traveling, a tablet is a more convenient and useful device, because I don't have to open it up, don't have to boot it up, don't have to worry about battery life. I don't bring my laptop to the mechanic and work on it while I wait for my car. I do bring my iPad though. I don't bring a laptop on the plane for a quick 24 hour trip. I do bring my iPad though. It's fantastic being able to futz with GB for hours and not have to hunt for a power plug when I'm on the go.
I don't think anyone's saying it replaces a regular computer. But seeing as how I can simply work on the iPad as a sketch surface, and then seamlessly import the projects into Logic and continue working on them, I fail to see how this is a bad thing, or a poor value.
Once Google fixes the latency problem, Android will be just as big, if not bigger. Especially if they get it so any device currently functional with the 2.6 Linux kernel also works with Android.

Anyone who's answering the OP recommending a laptop is a troll, plain and simple. why would i argue about laptops in a mobile apps forum
i have a laptop...it's great...i prefer a laptop over a desktop for portability...i have a tablet....i prefer to use the tablet for occasions when carting around a 2000 quid laptop is too risky or just not portable enough
i would actually love a mac pro with a 30" screen, but as i'm travelling it just aint possible
so, portability is everything to me
then there is the ui designed around 5-point multi-touch screens....
and the cheap apps with inventive interfaces

This is pretty much my point. Not everyone's a professional musician working in a studio every day. I'm a sysadmin that travels all around the US and the China. I don't necessarily want to carry my $2000 MBP everywhere. It's not yet a replacement for a full OS, despite people like Derek Buddemeyer doing impressive work using just a tablet and phone.el-bo (formerly ebow) wrote:why would i argue about laptops in a mobile apps forum

I've had netbooks. They run like crap, and don't get even half of the battery life they claim. That's why they're a dying breed. That's why I use a tablet, and that's why I visit a forum called Mobile Apps and Hardware, not Let's Try and Run DAW's on Cheap Crappy Hardware.

Having no relevant reply is not justification for making irrelevant ones. Doing so just comes off like this:

Back on topic, please. The topic is software for making music on an Android phone. In case anyone confuses the forum's topic with the thread's, the topic is cleverly displayed right there in the thread topic line.
If you don't think there are any Android music apps worth using, that means you need not bother telling the world. Surely no right-thinking person will disagree, so you can save some time and effort and find another thread. Or start your own, about laptops.

I STILL THINK THAT SUNVOX IS MORE THAN ADEQUATE AND HAS ITS SPECIAL CHARM AND WORKS WITHOUT BUGS...
WOULD SAY THE SAME ABOUT NANOLOOP, THOUGH IT HAS MUCH LESS POSSIBILITIES...
ACTUALLY THERE IS SUCCESSFUL PEOPLE DOING WHOLE ALBUMS WITH JUST NANOLOOP AND PRODUCING IT AFTERWARDS IN THE BOX-

The last part is an excellent point, as I can start working on something in GarageBand on iOS, then easily move it into either GB or Logic 9 on the desktop, and continue working, and change instruments, apply more effects, or whatever. It's a great workflow for me. Multitrack DAW allows for simple access to individual tracks, so you can then move it into whatever DAW you like on the desktop, and continue working.samurai kat kowboy wrote:
