Dimension pro is very old (you know it). How can you put this one in your tracks?
Even for one euro (or dollar), I don't buy it.
Yeah, no one ever uses old music gear.
Big difference between hardware and software... Sorry.
I think you're wrong about DP's sound and presets. For a rompler with a relatively small library of samples it's pretty good sound quality and there are some cracking presets in there that just require a bit of tweaking to bring them to life.

Unless someone has the hearing of a bat or a 14 year old in a shopping mall they'd never spot the difference between DP and another comparable priced rompler in a song. Does anyone still limit themselves to the FX in a synth these days? I think not, so the sound we hear in many contemporary productions has been layered and effected anyway.

The presets the didn't crash here sounded great

I did not read all of this thread, but Dimension Pro is no way just a rompler. Yopu can load any SFZ into it. What is more: you got 4 slots and lots of modulation options. It is a capable wave based synth. for the discounted price you cannot go wrong.

late in this but yeah, for that price worth grabbing if you need that range of non synth sounds, worth grabbing the whole bundle including zeta2 if you can stretch to it! That would keep you going for a long time!

In this VST world of virtual synth and emulations a good palette of non synth sounds can easily get overlooked. This can be thought of almost like a Roland 1080/2080 type rompler. It's got a great range of pretty usable sounds for acoustic guitars, some orchestral, drums, brass, organs etc etc

I think it's pretty decent sounding. It has some slightly dated sounds, but mostly it's all very useable. It's very light on the CPU.

However, if you have cubase it has a very good built in library which might mean you'd have less need for this type of thing.

If you were to spend the time digging into Dim Pro and creating your own sounds form the built in waveforms, as you can layer up four different sounds you can create some deep and powerful sounds.

Komplete is Excellent, but this would complement that bundle.

Also joining this thread late... Let's see here:

- Sonic Implant Strings
- Garritan Pocket Orchestra (which is basically GPO4 Lite)
- BigTone Samples and Patches (in Dimensions and Electronica Folders)

Just those for $37?!?! Well worth it...

Anything BT does is well worth the money IMO...

Part of my reasoning is because I want to stick with a more minimal and free library of sounds and VSTs which would save me money and force me to be creative with whatever I have. The other reason is that $37 is still a piece out of my money and it could be better if I save that in general and possibly towards Komplete someday.

I'll have to make a final decision by tomorrow's deadline.

700 mbyte free downloads and you can import your own samples but not multi velocity layers ... or

with a free 2 giga byte sound library and you can import upto 24 samples each patch... full software and last but not least....

Surely this will help

thanks. There are so many free VSTs! Which one to get? lol, if I get them all it's overwhelming. haha

btw, how do you think those three programs sounds compare to Dimension Pro?
Independance pro speaks for itself, full software apart from a few limitations..
It sounds as good as the sounds you put in it and has a set of premium quality effects and a top notch convolution engine. Ive seriously considered paying the $99 price for the 12Gb sound bank bundle and full software with no limitations..
Quality wise its up there with Kontact and the others, just doesnt seem to get the credit it deserves. Its a must have

I've not come across this problem yet but then I haven't tried every preset. If there are problems with some of the presets then that's a PITA. But I still think based on the presets I've tried and at the current price it's worth buying. I've not had any problems with Rapture or z3ta+ 2 yet so haven't had to contact Cakewalk support. Perhaps they aren't very responsive to fixing bugs so I can see that might be annoying if you have problems DP. :(

Dimension Pro to 1.5 was crashing Sonar X1 all the time, depending on the synth preset used. For me it was the first guitar preset.

Dorset Magic from the Cakewalk forums found a fix which worked for me:

If you set the MIDI Matrix Random Unipolar parameter of the synth preset to 0 it won't crash anymore.

Quoted in case people miss it. I'll have to try this next time I mess with Dim Pro. I've not seen anything like the crashiness others report but it has acted up on rare occasions. Thanks in advance, if it does fix the problem. Thanks even if it doesn't; might get someone else working.

Just found out that Dimension loads REX/RX2 files, and you can layer 4 of them, making for some complex patterns

Nice bonus, hadn't really thought about this until I bought some samples now that also came in Refill format.

You can also drag the MIDI to your host to trigger the slices if I'm not mistaken. When loading a Rex file, you should see a music note show up in the browser area. Drag that to your host.

Post

Yes, I saw that.

Do you know if there is a way to to loop the rex files, so I can just keep a key pressed, instead of having to retrigger?
