let's make a free soundlib (collab project)

Yesterday, I had this idea: would it be cool if KVR members gather together a big pack of loops & sounds samples & release it for free for everyone to enjoy?

I have lots of samples that are leftovers from various music & soundlib projects that never made it. I'm sure a lot of you guys have self-made samples that never made it into whatever musical project they were aim for. We could share those sounds! :-D

What I have in mind is a sample pack where the samples would be classified by artist name, then revelant group folders names (one-shots, multi-samples, loops, fxs, etc...).

example:

KVR Free Sound Treats Vol.1/SampleScience/Loops/bigbeat.wav
KVR Free Sound Treats Vol.1/DJ Something/FXs/SharpDrop.wav
etc...

If you have samples that you have made yourself & want to share them without having to edit anything, I'll take care of it. Send me the files with WeTransfer (or any other similar file sender) & I'll edit the wavs into acid wavs & REX2 files.

To make this happen, I need participants! If you want to make something, please reply to this thread or send me an email at samplesciencemtl (at) hotmail (dot) com.

You can send me your sounds from now on until the 9 July 2012. On this period of time, I'll have the time to make a nice artwork, edit/name the samples & make additional quality samples for the pack.

Let's make it a success! :)

I have free samples you posted years ago, some drum loops & multi sampled pads, rain, etc... They are not available on the internet anymore. Can I put them in the pack?

totally into it. I'll just start bouncing crap out as I work and drag it all into a folder to send you. might be good if we added BPM and key to things as well.

 Great! I have them on a CDr. This will be a good contribution!

I need more collaborators! I'll contact a couple of musicians to see if they'd like to contribute a little something. Maybe some sample dev could donate a little something to contribute, it would make good publicity at the same time! Content must be exclusive or hard to find.

Hey, I'm thinking about adding some little Kontakt Instruments/samples, but it would be mainly recorded stuff, so no synth things from me? (I have tons of sampled stuff which, sadly, is just sitting here, totally underused by me.)

Hm, do you have an okay from KvR to actually name the pack KvR V01? And where do you plan to host? Seems like a big thing already?

No, the title is just an example, it's nothing official. I could have called it Super Sound Pack Vol.1 for that matter... Recorded sounds is alright, I have tons of ultra clean bongos samples I recorded, anything that you've made yourself is alright!

For the hosting I'll use the usual places (check the Goldbaby freebie section for an example of what I'm saying). I don't plan to go crazy on this & fall into an useless imbroglio. I want to get things done & keep it fun!

Edit: I had the idea because once in a while when someone release a commercial pack, there's always people who are saying "I could do this easily in 2 minutes". Well, if it's that easy it's time to share your "2 minutes of time" with other people who likes to mangle samples in Acid & the likes!

I'm bumping the thread. It doesn't seems to generate much interest... if you want to participe, let me know it!

Awesome idea! I'll definitely send you some samples in the next few days :)

This is one of the best ideas ever to be posted on KVR!
- I'm not the "make my own samples" kinda guy but I fully support the idea and I'm looking forward to whatever you guys can come up with. I know we have some very capable users on the forum and I'm sure the quality of this project can be sky high if they put some work into it.

Good luck and all the best :-)

I'm bumping this thread. I'm sorry for not being able to participate though - i'm definitely not a sound designer, wouldnt know where to start, wouldnt make anything useable :(... However, i do use samples, so. :) How is this coming along?

Cool. Thought I had lost this thread. I have some stuff I will send when I get back from vacation.
