Yes please use as much automation as possible, always makes for more interesting sounds. Can even use plugins to help you with it like MIDISeq! and MIDIMod! from Sonic Assault for example.

Cool! I was looking for something like this, since Sonar's built-in envelope automation is kinda lame. Thanks V'ger! :)

been trying all day unsuccesfuly to get some midi hooked up on my all free setup, oh well looks like all be drawin modulations. thanks for letting us know we can, its a whole new ballgame now.

Hmmm, Avira is reporting that these plugins contain viruses :(

I downloaded them at http://homepage.ntlworld.com/jez.price/effects.htm , which is also the page linked from KVR. Real issue, or false alert???

Alright, after a lot more experimentation than I expected, here's a submission.

Title: dwringer - analog rhythm

12 MiniMogue Instances
bounced to 5 .wav files, per FX buses,
which were then mixed and mastered*

FL Studio 8

Effects:
5x ParisEQ (from the "old free vsti gems" thread on this forum)
3x ReaComp
1x Smartelectronix Ambience reverb

Definitely something a bit off the norm, but I'm tired of the generic way in which synthesis of steel pans is usually handled - one patch to cover the entire orchestral range - which neglects the unique overtone patterns of each voice. So, these instruments are all tuned in accordance with their real-life counterparts. As best I could using 2 MiniMogues per voice, anyway, and still managing to retain some sanity. :P

Hope you guys enjoy.

*[Actually the reason for bouncing tracks to wav's was to circumvent my own user error, and was irrelevant. The synth works as it should when rendering multiple instances together, despite its intermittent realtime performance.]

Cheers for the early submissions, an indication it will be a good number this month?

Midi from a hardware controller?

False alert, I've had it too, but you can check them at VirusTotal for example.
If you're satisfied it's safe, put the whole directory (file objects) as exception in Avira's guard (go to configuration).

Thanks again V'ger.

Stutter i think it's ok, due it's alike to a midi retrigger, but ask V'ger before, due although it's alike to Midi retrigering, stuttering uses the buffer too.
Reverse obviously not, you are playing with buffer, and the synth itself can't do that.

I know what you are thinking, glitcher. And i would liked to use Dblue machinne sometime ago, i'm in love with it. :P

Have a good day :)

Were you thinking to use the MIDI plugs mentioned above? If so it should work as long as Chaotic supports MIDI control changes (MIDI CC) and it would be amazing if it didn't but this is the first time I hear about Chaotic so don't know and can't tell from the site either..

But of course as long as it supports native automation you can always do things that way, the MIDI CC plugins I mentioned was just an alternative and to make things easier.

I give up this month... :)

What about going for another DAW for the month for those with DAW related issues? (You having trouble with Renoise SuperNoise?) Or is it altogether more hassle than struggling with the synth?

But also try to run your DAW in XP compatibility mode if you're running Win 7 for example. (copy its shortcut and right-click to set in the properties box there)
