there seems to be a few people on that link who disagree with your opinion, lots of people seem to be enjoying what he is doing.
i personally dont have much interest in what he is up to these days but that doesnt matter, im clearly not his intended audience. it doesnt mean he is uninspired or a goofball, it just means i enjoy different things.
maybe think about your own tastes, rather than accuse someone wo seems to be entertaining a rather large crowd of being one thing or another...

i imagine norm is strong enough to cope with a few negative comments by faceless individuals on the interweb, he seems to do ok with his intended audience :)

Tbh if it works for him and that he's not inspired by soft synths, then why not ?

Some people are inspired by guitars, others by playing a trumbone ( yes some are :) ) , then some people by HW synths only, or SW synths only, or both ( my case btw ) but well in the end the only important thing might be at least to BE inspired by something.

Fwiw ....

Didn't you mean "drumbone"? There are people who are inspired by their dog and they play with drumbones... :hihi:

Nowadays Edison could be a producer of solar panels...
Edison was a monster, I am sure he has plans to screw some poor scientist out of his life savings and rob him of his dreams and inspiration.

Fatboy slim in 2012 is a uninspired goofball
aha! He's Bill Gates!

And I'm an uninspired goofball !

Bob probably had bills to pay:
"Arturia has done it again. The Minimoog V's sound quality captures the magic of the original classic Minimoog. We at Moog Music are happy to lend our name to this fine product."- Dr. Robert Moog
Quote taken from: http://www.arturia.com/evolution/en/pro ... tails.html
Take it with a grain of salt. Bob Moog was a business man and he was selling his name to put on that product. If you do a bit of research you'll find Minimoog V isn't often mentioned when talking about the best Minimoog emulation.

Hmmmm. I seem to remember a recent thread where you and I both preferred clips of Cypher over Andromeda 6. :)
The jury's out on that as far as I'm concerned. First he said I was right, then he flipped. I honestly don't think he remembers which was which any more and I'm pretty sure I was right. That said, he also mentioned that he likes the sound of the Andromeda A6 more even though his store sells DCAM.

He did say "captures the magic" not "captures the sound" :hihi: anyhow considering the time it came out, and possibly Bob's exposure to the alternatives, I'll give him a pass on sincerity.

dalor wrote:Yeah that was the OLD Bob Moog who sold his name to Arturia. The YOUNG Bob Moog, if he was born in our computer era, would have developed synths himself, hardware or software. Most likely some lead developer somewhere..
I saw him give a talk once and during the Q&A part someone asked if Big Briar was going to do a MIDI theremin. (it was that long ago) and he went off on a rant about how samples where horrible, canned and lacking all the nuance and beauty of an analog theremin. He totally went into "old man mad at kids on his lawn" mode. I think he felt angry and threatened by digital technology at the time. When someone waved money under his nose, he probably took another look at it. (there was a MIDI theremin later)

I agree completely and did say Bob had bills to pay in my post.

I never claimed to be an ambassador of taste in music.

I din't accuse him of being a nazi or something. I just think anyone who plays the "fatboy slim is f**king in heaven" sample to a crowd of thousands is a totally uninspired goofball. Bottom of the barrel performance/minimum effort and zero nuance. $$$

hmmmmm... who to listen to... who to listen too:

someone with a few decades of experience actually working profitably within the music industry, with actual releases and world wide fame...

or

no name, random, wannabees and armchair heros on an internet forum with no history, no background, no acknowledged successes...

hmmmmmm ... a pondering....
