Is there an iPhone/iPad app that does this?

There are so many grid based apps, I thought I would ask in case anyione can point me in the right direction. Is there an app that is like this?

1) Grid based, like a launchpad or monome (8x8, 16x8, 16x16, or whatever). Time on one axis, pitch on the other.

2) Tap on a square to set or delete a note

3) Pitch axis can be set to different scales/modes

4) Export song or pattern to midi.

5) Patterns can be sequenced... so I can draw one pattern on a grid (grid A), then copy this pattern to a new grid (grid B) then have grid A play followed by grid B, kind of like a simple song arranger.

6) Allow use of own samples as instruments.

I feel like something like this should exist, even if not all points are met. #5 and #6 are the least important, I would be very happy if I could get something that supports the other features!

"Oooh I dont know. Sounds a bit scary"
"It's not scary. You just lose a sense of who you are and all that sh!t"

Very interesting, thanks! Also because of your suggestion I typed 'tenori on' into Appshopper and that brought up a ton of other similar apps. Lots for me to check out this weekend, thanks!

It's a pretty old app (though the iPad version just got an update this past Feb), but iSequence may fit the bill for what you are looking for. If you're using an iPad, the HD version looks far more robust than the iPhone version, including the ability to load your own samples.

Both are currently $4.99 (and there's a free lite version so you can test drive it).

I had the iPhone version, and it seemed cool, but that method of composition just wasn't for me (I basically need to play live on a keyboard or touchscreen keys), so I deleted it from my phone after a few months.

Ah yes, I already have iSequence (I love it!) but it's not quite what I'm seeking here... rather than being able to select pitch within a square/cell like in iSequence, I'm looking to simply have one cell per pitch - per step - that I can turn on/off with a tap. Customizable scales (or lots of presets) and midi export are a must.

You're right. When I took a closer look at iSequence, I remembered it wasn't the true grid you were looking for. As far as apps with MIDI export, iDesignSound has a database where you can look for apps by properties. The link below is filtered for apps with MIDI export:

This may at least help you narrow the possibilities.

Brilliant, didn't know about that list! Thanks!
