+1 for Drumatic (2+3) and Optik (if your daw can handle Synthedit vsts fine)
There are also some very good percussion synths from ugo and xoxos (again Synthedit).
Also have a look at:
Waldorf Attack (good drumsynth but no sequencer)
AudioDamage Axon (fm percussion, also melodic, bit more leftfield)
ErsDrums (free!)
RP Punch (if you like the gui)
My absolute favourite is Microtonic. Versatile sound, punchy, compact gui, easy sequencer and very inspirating (check out the Patternarium!). The only negative thing is that is has a very distinctive sound. You will always recognise that the drums come from Microtonic.
Very cool combination is Microtonic and a Korg Nanopad2. I use the touchpad for morphing sounds, the lower 8 drumpads for triggering the drumsounds and the upper 8 pads for muting the 8 drumtracks. Lots of fun!
Cheers,
Gerald

With the german magazine beat.de you get waldorf attack for free (along with Dune and a few others)
Computer music has a version of ADM with only the 606 and samples covered (ie no 808+909). There's also Dirty Panda which has kick, snare and percussion. While not a drum machine, Dmitry's DiversionFX is on it as well and while being a kickass multi .. no, megaeffect, you can make drumsounds from just about anything with it using the filters and msegs
Drumaxx is absolutely awesome
Xoxos drummodules sound really great

I'm ultimately disapointed with this...cryophonik wrote:Be sure to check out FXpansion Tremor as well

1 do all percussion engine...
Maybe should have programmed several sound engines to choose between, even if sub sets of the do all enginre. wheres the easy BD module,,,,
\And seriously.... NO good reason not to have a sample player module - would be amazing with these filters/fx after it...

Or you could just play about with it for 10 minutes and make your own sounds instead....standalone wrote:If you are going to check FXpansion's Tremor, as you should, take a listen to

I had a similar decision to the OP - in the end I narrowed it down to Tremor and microtonic.
Tbh, I gave up on the first demo of Tremor because I didn't like any of the presets. As a relative newcomer, if the experts couldn't make it sound decent, what chance would I have?
Then I saw that they had re-launched the sale price - and I thought I'd retry it. Unfortunately the demo had timed out - but sampleconstruct at patchpool had some good demos (and I'd been impressed with the Alchemy stuff I'd just bought) so I thought I'd take a risk - bought the synth and the patchpool set.
Really glad I did because the patchpool set shows what the instrument is capable of - great starting point for doing your own. There are also some great videos from Fxpansion (of Dan Worral quality!), so I'm now enjoying getting deeper it.
The two key things for me are the split timings and the modulation system.
You have 8 tracks, each can be set from 1 to 32 steps; and each track can also be running at a different song speed from 1/16 to 16/1 (with any combination of fraction). That gives a huge permutation - larger than than there are atoms in the Universe I think! There is no midi out - but it would be hard to select which cross rhythm you would want to export.
Also the modulation system is the best I've seen - easy to set the depth and the range with two mouse cursors that change when you hover near the control.
CPU is high but it's fine on my old dual core! (Must by a new machine soon though.)
But I also bought microtonic - because it sounds insanely good just off the bat. Very versatile - you can trigger other instruments, easy to assign control keys and you can play it "in tune" as a pitched instrument. And it's got a website full of user selected generated patches, a real Dan (I've only just scratched the surface) Worral video and a scripting tool so you can even programme it!
So I can recommend them both - they are both very "musical" - and for me that is the key to buying any plugin instrument or effect.
