now that would be awesome, personally I thought the idea of them making a rompler would be great with the experience E has on roland synths, but user samples in omni if done with ease could be one of the most powerful options ever..
I can see it now, users upload andromeda samples n mix those with omnis synths n engine..mixed with some sort of new rmx drum machine, wow, if only customers could get what they wanted.

This feature is missing because Specrasonics would like you to buy their Omnisphere expanisons.

Spectrasonics haas given us like 7 bazzilion free sounds since this synth was released. They Have one expansion and all of its proceeds go to charity. I use it on everything I do. Hands down my best music software purchase ever. A complete bargain in hindsight.filter303 wrote:This feature is missing because Specrasonics would like you to buy their Omnisphere expanisons.

Nope. It's missing because if sample loading were allowed it would lead to a lot of extra needed functionality and they'd have to implement and feature requests, mainly in sample zone editing and all the sampler functions in things like Kontakt, which is probably a big job and changes the product from a synth with sample sources to an outright multi-sampler as well. Since Omni doesn't do timestretch or true granular, sampled sources usually need to be multi-sampled to be useful so they'd have to allow that ty[e editing (as opposed to loading a single sample). SFZ would very cool though. It could be a way for them to allow custom import but not have to deal with all the editing functions (like what they did with RMX and Rex files. But that is actually a really annoying limitation of Stylus RMX. Would be much better if you could just load WAV files and slice yourself, but of course they probably wanted to avoid having to make all the necessary slicing functions.filter303 wrote:This feature is missing because Specrasonics would like you to buy their Omnisphere expanisons.
If Omni does end up being able to load samples, I just hope there is a timestretch mode.

I don't want this feature.
[duck, roll]
Omnisphere has a soul, and I would worry that user-contributed samples would only make people compare it to Kontakt or the like. ...Which I own but rarely use, because it's so... soul-less.
[shrug]
I would much, much rather see Spectrasonics add more sound packages of their own. Honestly, I don't personally know of a better company of sound engineers. Opening up Omnisphere would, IMO, hurt it.
That said, I didn't actually buy the Moog package 'cause I didn't think it added much (based on the demos, which is rarely a good idea, but the only option in this case). I'd love to see them do the same treatment to the JD-990*, the Prophecy/Z1, the FIZMO, the quirky Ensoniq synths... you know, a "digital era" package. I'd be on that like flies on... uhhh... scratch that image.
* Didn't Eric *do* most of the sounds on the JD?!
