Why would it be, unless you're desparate for validation?

Or unless you are not really a musician, but rather a rock star wannabe.

Sadly, I would say that the previous sentence describes the vast majority of people trying to get into the music business.

as to tricky loops bottom quote there, i dont think ive ever bought an album because it got good reviews in a magazine, its usually been hearing stuff through friends or recommendations from friends. word of mouth, it means more to me than someone wo is paid to write reviews, as i used to do this myself, i got a lot of stuff sent to me but if i reviewed an act badly i would probably not get stuff from that label any more. this leads me to beleive that the majority of reviewers do it for the freebies and worry they wont get as much free stuff anymore

It's just for me i want people to listen to my music so that i can convey that happiness to them.

What if they tell you that hearing your music makes them unhappy though?
Is it conveying unhappiness.
Seriously though...I guess the base reason for doing music, or carving wood is still, for the pleasure it gives the individual doing it. The results being shared is fine too, but should not be the main reason for doing it.

Happiness comes in a lot of different form. Making music is just one of so many medium to achieve self satisfaction. If you like sound design and that makes you happy, good for you.
