Hey, this topic is more for my own personal curiosity however I'm sure maybe some other people may also have an interest in it,
When making music, i make electro style tracks with some bits of dub step in, on my effects chain i have a distortion that i always use on my bass, i play my notes around 0-1 octaves but the mid and high is pushed VERY hard on the distortion unit so you get the full frequency spectrum, however sometimes when i am flicking through say the wavetables in massive sometimes i hit the wrong waveform and it rings out at a high pitch noise, i don't monitor loud (around 60db), so the sound doesn't hurt or anything, its just more of an annoyance when its a really high pitch noise that comes out of my adams at me,
What I'm curious about is ear fatigue, i mean i don't know if anybody else gets what i mean where by every now and again going through synths one pops out (its probably because of the distortion I'm using). But why do we find such a sound so irritating when i can listen to music that contains this frequency anyway all day? i know that were not just listening to that tone when we are listening to music, but i hear that the human ear is most sensitive to 2-5khz, so why something above 5khz would prove so irritating?
Is there a way to put a frequency dependant limiter on my master? To prevent such things happening in the future?
Thank you!
Mike

i have kids and rarely get to use my good mic for vocals. much easier to throw up the USB mic I have. it has a couple of frequencies that just kill me, they're all I can hear whenever I use it. shrill high pitched crap around 2KHz and 5 KHz. I ended up making an EQ preset that cuts those 2 frequencies and my life is way better now.
