Soundbanks and Hardware Synths

Hi guys
I've been thinking for a little while now about making sound-banks for hardware.
We have the usual suspects, the Virus TI and JP8000.
What hardware, digital or analog do you all have that you think you'd love to have more sound-banks for? (of course it needs patch-bank memory)
I thought the Mopho would be a good one because it's so complex and I'm assuming the same presets can be used on Tetra?
Another was was the Novation Nova and maybe even the UltraNova as I've not hear anything much for it yet.

Yes I'd love to make a set. Do you think a lot of people still have the C? I'd rather just work on the TI.
How about Gaia, that might be a good one.

There are surely a lot of Virus C users out there, without a doubt... (if not, where should have all the virus c models gone?
)
And the good thing, with a virus c soundset, you also reached the ti users.
For mopho is so far no soundset out right? I personally thinked many times about to do one for it, but the editor is well not so good and it looks like the mopho isn't so much used as others(like blofeld or virus)

Yes it's a risk. If I really wanted the Mopho anyway I'd do it, but the truth is I don't find the Dave Smith sound to my taste from all the demos I've listened to and using the P08 and Poly-Evolver. But I feel, perhaps if I just program it the right way I will like but I have not convinced myself yet.Cyforce wrote:There are surely a lot of Virus C users out there, without a doubt... I much prefer the sound of the Moog synths but who's gonna buy trance patches for the little phatty?! It's a little absurd, but I'd love to do it.
That's a good point about the Virus C being compatible with TI. They are still so expensive even second hand that it's just not worth it I might as well get the Snow.

The sound of mopho and his features are really great. But so far the mopho just looks too much "forgetten"

How many soundsets would you have to sell just to recoup the cost of the hardware to make them? Unless you found a way to borrow or rent them....I suppose if you really wanted some particular unit even selling a few soundsets would help defer the cost to some degree.....
I checked out the new Casio XWP1 and XWG1 synths at Guitar Center yesterday (although they didn't even have them plugged in since they probably didn't want to demo the lowest cost instruments in the shop). The XWP1 looks like a cool instrument and at $499 they should sell quite well....might be a good instrument to create soundsets for since it's fairly new.......

Don't go for the usual suspects. There's too many sound banks for them already.Aiynzahev wrote:Hi guys

UltraNova would be a great candidate as i've yet to hear a SINLE good sound out of it. If you can make it sing, you can sell some sound banks. (I have the original Nova and would love some cool sounds for it, as there seems to be only a few banks ever sold for it. But i'm guessing there aren't that many still using these.)
I would personally definitely go for the Mopho. Not because i sell an editor for it
Btw. No effects in Mopho/Tetra, so might be a bit more challenging. But way more fun than fiddling with digital synths
You could also check out some patches that are already made for software Prophet clones to get some inspiration. And to make those "oh that's a Prophet" type of sounds.

Well, much like what you hear on my existing banks which you can hear on the sound-cloud link. However I could produce something a little different, but likely I would first make a trance bank, then later come out with something different.thecontrolcentre wrote:What sort of patches are you offering to make? So there are problems getting mopho patches to work in Tetra or just problems getting them to Tetra?mkdr wrote: Don't go for the usual suspects. There's too many sound banks for them already.

The Novation UltraNova would be a great one to work with. I was so close to buying one a while ago but the audio demos around are so bad I didn't really know if it was worth it. I finally had a play with one in best buy, and it's really good.
It's another synth release with poor presets perhaps. My only concern is how many people out there own it? How would it sell?
Still, all it has to do is sell enough (eventually) to make enough to pay for most of the synth.
Mopho I think I am going to do just to find out.
Nothing ventured nothing gained!

Please don't do that - too many Virus banks are designed to work on the C or even the B but then they miss out on the really interesting stuff for me such as the wavetables, granular and formant oscs etcAiynzahev wrote:Yes I'd love to make a set. I had published a soundset for the Waldorf Blofeld around 18-19 months ago and until today i have earned several times the price of the synth (which was 399 Euros for the desktop synth + 99 Euros for the SL expansion).Teksonik wrote:How many soundsets would you have to sell just to recoup the cost of the hardware to make them? Opposing to that my bank for the PPG Wave 3.V sells quite badly even if more work (e.g. for the included custom samples) was involved there.
I'll try to do another Blofeld soundset soon and i'll also try to finish a soundset for the Moog Slim Phatty i have worked on for a while now.
Even if softsynths seem to sell more copies (not always as some hardware synths sell even better...) selling soundbanks for them does not always seem to be really successfull except for very popular synths like e.g. Sylenth1, Alchemy, Zebra and Diva. For those there are already tons of sounds available so finding/doing something totally new is not too easy.
For hardware (especially the Blofeld and the Phatty) there are much less (or only few) soundbánks available so this seems to be more promising in some cases.
I still got a Virus TI desktop i got around 2006 but have not used it for a while and will maybe sell it. Doing a commercial TI soundset (like e.g. Cyforce did recently) with really totally new sounds is not really easy too as there are many thousand free sounds available at the Access website already.

All good points. Glad I asked the question. Hardware $
Definitely has it's appeal and Its good to know the blofeld set sold well. That's another one I've considered.
