Doubt it. They need to retain backwards compatibility.eigens wrote:And development of reason doesn't look promising either for me. Any decent rack that was included in reason will now go up for sale as an extension.
Just downloaded Reason 6.5 plus a couple of RE's from the shop...

Still in the works. We had a demanding Diva to look aftermemyselfandus wrote:Wheres the UHE stuff?
Now we're in the process of redesigning the Uhbik suite. The prototypes we showed during Musikmesse were done with an early RE SDK. Neither our dsp code nor our gui worked with the latest SDK that came out some 3 weeks ago. Even though Props have lowered the specs for the initial start and we could have made it, we did not want to do anything now that needs to be updated once things get more strict.
Unfortunately, as everyone might have heard already (and unlike what we were initally told), there's no voucher system. We can't make REs cheaper for existing users. So we're aiming at a 19$ introductory offer per Uhbik and we'll settle in the 39$ price tier for each, maybe different tiers for different Uhbiks... I had hoped for more flexible pricing models, but this is really the best we could come up with. This had puzzled me because I promised better pricing based on other information
If all goes well we've developed some more ideas which we'll then possibly release as RE only.

If we could we would have offered a good discount to existing VST / AU owners. But we can't. There simply are no facilitates for discounts in the Rack Extension store. Sorry.
this i a real downer for people, who don't have much money to spend.
i'll buy Etch now and that's it for the moment.

why can't the delay of Neptune be corrected?!
even upon rendering?
this is their own device
not some faulty 'vst', you know how 'they' are
(according to Props anyways)

if I were the props:
1. I'd make the basic version of reason free.
2. I'd increase rev/share split to something like 70/30 for sales of RE's (70 to devs)
3. I'd turn the devices in reason into VST/AU's and sell them.
4. I'd evolve the RE store to include all VST/AU's
5. I'd create an API/service architecture to allow other DAW companies to use the RE store.

I am loving this idea though, makes it REALLY hard to choose which DAW to open when inspiration strikes an old fuddy duddy promiscuous DAW-whore like myself

after taking a long hard look at our relation to your money,
we can sum up our need for it in one word :more.

this is the only problem I have with RE. no crossgrade option.ttoz wrote:ok well it seems the discount thing is not up to the devs but to props.
that really is a blow for owners of vst/au/rtas versions who would like to crossgrade and use reason as well.
but think, that would be difficult. how would that be possible? your store account and your reason license is your unique identifier to the world of propellerheads, and your other accounts are not known.
props would have to publish this kind of information and the onus would be on the third party developer to integrate crossgrading systems / pricing schemes based on this, and that would have to be a 2 way negotiation; on store query of product, check via B2B API with development server if product is owned by user (common link email address?) if so, adjust price by variable discount returned.
It's a tricky thing to be sure.
TBH, I'm really really really happy to see Synapse offering their DSP in reason RE's!!!! I am going to support Richard with some re-investment and I don't hate that, that's OK, I like him and he has to eat
But yes you're right, there are some problems that have to be solved, but overall, it's pretty awesome!

This is a point I've made a few time in the last couple of years - a real frustration using trying to EQ in Reason. But as for your good suggestions, IIRC it's been confirmed by a couple of developers that frequency spectrum analysis graphics aren't possible in the current SDK for RE - nor in the core Reason environment itself...!ttoz wrote: speaking of, the reason eq's are REALLY bad.. i hope that dmg or fab filter make their eq's as an RE so reason users can finally have a good eq, currently there is no eq that allows you to really do sharp lo cuts for example!
In which case I'm guessing it will still be quite some time (i.e. years) before we get to see user-friendly visual EQ options such as those you mention within the Reason environment. This is one example (there are others of course!) of how the Reason environment itself really needs more attention in order to be a more credible environment.
And of course these are the sort of limitations that will become increasingly clear, because having started down the whole Rack Extension route, it's only a matter of time before people begin to make serious comparisons between what is actually possible in Reason with RE as opposed to using a more powerful core programme (e.g. Logic, Cubase, ABleton, Pro Tools, REAPER, etc.....) with VST plugs. Fast forward two years and I suspect a lot of musicians will be asking why Reason + RE is still so limited compared to just about any other alternative

For me it's made the choice much easier. As somebody who has used both Ableton and Reason for several years, I now look at Reason as a growing liability - something where users are increasingly locked into an idiosyncratic ecosystem, and where the cost of membership is only going to get a LOT higher in the coming months and years.grymmjack wrote: ... makes it REALLY hard to choose which DAW to open when inspiration strikes an old fuddy duddy promiscuous DAW-whore like myself
Ableton - or any other VST host - looks like the land of the free by comparison. I've got my green card, my passport, and I'm ready for the full move.

Maybe a stupid question but is there a version of the Reason demo that's not 3GB big (I don't need all the samples and so on)? I have limited traffic at the moment and can't download such a big file.
If that's the only version I'll download it when I'm back home.
Cheers

So Props are mandating a pricing structure and a distribution mechanism? Are they also taking a cut of sales in the store? In other words, are they pretending they're Apple and acting like heinous douchebags?Urs wrote: We can't make REs cheaper for existing users.
If I was a Reason user, I'd dump it on the spot right around now.

Yep. They are also taking the usual 30%. I guess this is why developers can't offer discounts to earlier customers too, there's nothing in it for Propellerhead.yevster wrote:So Props are mandating a pricing structure and a distribution mechanism?
