Or for people who have always considered Reason's greatest strengths to be the fact that the user base can easily collaborate using the exact same gear. You can only run demo mode for a limited time, so for anyone you regularly collaborate with you will need to buy all the same stuff they have (or bounce everything down to audio and have huge file sizes). Very much swings and rounderbouts.
Did you ever hear about Refills? Why are RE's suddenly the game stopper regarding collaboration?!

You're full of "if"s "but"s and "IIRC"s that are wrong, and you assume only the worst case scenario.
How RE's can be a bad thing for Reason users is beyond me.

And the crossgrade nonsense. If you're a Live user, use Live and your VST's. If you're a Reason user use Reason and your RE's.
If you use both with rewire, use your existing VST or RE. No need to buy it twice.

Yea it would be stupid to buy it twice. But this is really annoying, cause one of the things about it that was attractive was the crossgrade. I remember reading somewhere that they would use a coupon code system to implement it, so I guess they changed their minds, or don't have the system set up yet.
I also hoped that most RE's would not be straight ports of existing au/vst plugins, so there's a plus side to it too. It might also encourage developers to come up with completely new reason-y stuff or reimagine existing plugins such that they are almost completely different from their au/vst counterparts.

30% was mentioned by Props CEO.

So for example let's take Audio Damage Rough Rider compressor. Although most Reason users have been saying for years that the MClass comp, SSL mixer comp and now Pulveriser are all they need so... why would they now rush to buy Rough Rider I wonder...?
Ah. The classic "most users", and assuming these are all the same people saying MClass etc. are all they need, that now "rush" to buy Rough Rider.

Try posting about Reason or Propellerheads when your butt isn't hurting too much.

And since they're copying the app store model, maybe they should also copy all the discounts and freebies that happen on the app store on a daily basis :D

Well, the interface is identical to the modules in the (drumroll) $40 Rough Rider Pro VST. Since Combinators can easily handle all of the multiband duties (even adding more bands than the RRP and adding pre-compressor insert effects on any band) it's arguably a better deal.

And funny how you've selectively ignored the many plugins that are far cheaper than their VST equivalents (Etch Red, Softube).

So to be clear (seriously, because I'm not understanding you here): what can you do with the $29 Rough Rider RE plus Reason's Combinator that you couldn't (even more quickly) do with the Freeware Rough Rider VST in Ableton's effects rack?

so it seems like all the other tools..

a midi sequencer mixer etc

i guess it is a perfectly usable and viable option

i don't think i can get my head around the modular patching.. is there any sort of automated system in place for this?

in any case i am going to beddie bies, but will give this program a real serious run tomoz
Reason uses automated patching of audio cables. If you create a device in a Rack it gets added with it's own mix device, if you add an effect below it it autoroutes the effect as an insert. If you add more effects they will be added depending on where you click, i.e. click between instrument and current effect and that's where it will be inserted. click below last effect and that is where it will be inserted. However once created, just moving a device does not re-route it in the chain.

This is when you hit "Tab" and re-connect yourself. Also if you want to create a device without auto-routing you hold shift pressed while creating the device.

say i have an eq then comp and decide i want the comp before the eq, can i just move them like i can in any daw or is that what you mean buy i will need to repatch it?
In the SSL mix window you can reorder the channel strip effects, but...

In the Rack you need to fully repatch them by flipping the rack and manually dragging each cable. It's easy to do though, and only takes a few minutes.

theo, things auto-route by default, so if you are focused on mixer for example, and insert an effect, it creates a send. if you are focused on a subtractor and create an effect, it creates an insert, etc.

the mixer is the hardest to get used to, with the wireless/remote idea.

i think you should give it a fair chance.

you hold down alt or shift (i cant remember which) to prevent auto-routing.

just the beginning, but there are also workflow niceties.

someone mentioned f5,f6, f7, well you can press those in simultaneous combinations too to bring up mixer and rack, or sequencer and rack, or all three at once. you can undock them too. i think shift and those keys undock them or something i cant recall.
