A very generous offer, I'm so all over this on the 21.

I read this as it being more or less a rompler, being able to play presets, but no advanced tweaking of sounds. A bit like Analog Factory or Lab...robojam wrote:

I think if I'm reading it right, "behind the front panel" is the new features that they added, but the functionality of the original is intact.
Nevertheless I salute Arturia for this intiative, weighs up for some of the bad impressions I've got of the lately.

This like christmas.
Thanks to the OP for the info and thanks to Arturia for this freebie.
Edit: Found this on the internet:
"Arturia Newsletter:
Dear Musician,
On June 21st, you will be able to download the Minimoog V Original for free.
The Minimoog V Original is a commemorative edition of the Minimoog V which includes all the sounds and features from the latest Minimoog-V update, but without the additional functionality accessible behind the top panel, just like the original Minimoog.
We are celebrating a partnership with Moog Music that gave birth to the Moog Modular V and Minimoog V. This partnership, initiated by Bob Moog himself, is coming to an end and the Moog Modular V and Minimoog V soft synths will soon be remerging as the updated and renamed Modular V and Mini V. We saw this as an opportunity to give musicians a gift that will symbolize this historical collaboration.
June 21st is World Music Day, a day everyone should play and share music.
So mark the date in your calendar - Arturia is giving away a great product on June 21st.
Musically yours,
The Arturia team. "
I doubt it. I believe with "Functions behind the front panel" they mean the stuff described here: http://www.arturia.com/evolution/en/pro ... tails.html under "What we added". I would be very surprised if that would be not the case...Numanoid wrote: I read this as it being more or less a rompler, being able to play presets, but no advanced tweaking of sounds. With lower expectation, the chance of being positively surprised is much biggerchk071 wrote:I doubt it. So the licensing deal with Moog is coming to an end. I wonder if this means we might see more virtual synths from Moog proper. After all, they've dipped their toe into the waters with Animoog.

wow! Didn't see that coming! This is exciting. I've been checking Arturia synths out for a while now, this one is appealing for sure.
There's a pic on the link chk07 just posted, right at the bottom. It shows the back-panel.
I can see on there:
Mod-Matrix
Additional LFO
Arpeggiator
Chorus+Delay
It looks like there is more: No Vocal Filter or Automation recorder.
Really impressive tohugh. Not crippled at all it's just like a Moog Old School.

I bet most users of the normal version never realised the thing has a back panel at all, they just flipped through the presets and that's it

I am not so sure this is a generous gift from Arturia since giving this away will hurt their future sales. I suspect there were heated discussions between Arturia and Moog about continuing to use the name and they couldn't come to terms. Moog probably wants to create their own plug-ins.chk071 wrote: "Arturia Newsletter:

I imagine:
1) Arturia said, "If you don't let us to continue to use the Moog name for the same licensing fee, we will give the plug-in away for free and eliminate the market for your version of the plug-in."
2) Moog called their bluff and said go ahead but we will be selling an official Moog plug-in and we can no longer license the name to you.
All of this is pure speculation on my part but why else would a company give one of their flagship products away for free? Have you heard of World Music Day before this? I haven't.
