Beside the advertisement PH does to show the advantages of this new format, I would like to name my single, most important advantage (simply because no one else seems to mention it ;)) - the rack.

Now, with a plug-in system, you have loads of single windows floating around. Some people may like that, I clearly don't. "Lemme change that amp envelope here, add a little more compression and play around with the insert delay...". Now I got the synth open, my delay open, my compressor open and I'm trying to make those adjustment, still rearranging windows to be able to have an overview. Then I have to close all those GUIs again to be able to see my sequencer and the rest of my project.

With Reason, it's one hot key and I can see the rack, find my devices, make the adjustment, hit another hot key and I'm back at my sequencer. Yea, they didn't invent shortcuts, but the rack as the only space for devices, always, easy to spot (for me at least), is something I don't see many people talking about, but like I said, it's an essential part of keeping my workflow.

I think the REs would be more exciting to me if they featured unique creation from the devs, instead of mostly ports of things we already own. For example, I already own everything from U-He. As much as I love them, I cannot imagine rebuying them at full price. If Urs made something that I could only use in Reason, I might consider it.

At the moment, there is no real incentive for me to buy any of the current extensions, because I can just rewire into my DAW.

I think RE could be an interesting concept, but I think the Props played it too safe by just giving us a version of what we already have. It almost feels like they took some pretty modern plugins and sent them back to an 80s hardware rack.

I might update just to get the free RE, because I admit I am a free plugin whore, but I am just not that excited by what I see.

You needed to use another shortcut for that, LOL! Is there this kinda option in this 6.5? I.E, you set up playing cursor somewhere, when you play stop, it returns automatically there where you set it up. This feature is under command "return to start" or "return to start position" in the cubase / S1. Sorry for my shit english..
You "return to start" by pressing the stop button twice successively. On a Mac you can also press "0" on the numeric keypad twice.

Just popping in to say hi anosou. We used to play video games together a couple years back and discuss VGmusic ;)

Which is exactly what we did- our stuff is not available in VST form at all, not even the algorithms are (at least not yet).

Flip to the backside- it's all about modulation, this is what makes it interesting and unique. I don't think it should be used like a traditional DAW, that's missing the point, ihmo.

Richard,

your modules look quite interesting, but for me at least, they're expensive. so i haven't even tried them, because i know, i'd like them, but i couldn't buy them.

I agree with this, I love the rack concept, the routing options, the combiner etc etc....But I hardly ever use Reason as I hate the sequencer (I always end up back on Cubase or Live depending what I am doing).

The Rack should be released as a VST/AU whatever plug in, I would use it more, I would buy Re's then just to use the modular routing witin my VST 'rack'

Richard,

Your REs are kind of the exception that proves the rule. Most of the REs look like variations of existing products, or selected functionalities of larger projects.

I am sure these REs are perfectly fine and if I were a complete beginner I would look at them more seriously. I just probably will not rebuy something that I pretty much already have. I would be willing to pay a reasonable license fee for the porting cost of something I own, but if I am go to put out a decent amount of money I want it to be for something that has functions that are unique and significant and radically, not slightly, change how the RE works in comparison to its VST version which I can use across DAWs.

Again, I will keep an eye on the development. I am not saying that I will never purchase REs, I just want something that is more exciting and innovative than what I am currently seeing.

+1 and I never used to think this, but actually for people who use Reason as a Rewire slave this is exactly what I want. I don't mind the Reason sequencer, but in rewire slave mode I don't need it. And as for the mixer ... I just hate it. So tedious to navigate, and it's just not how I want a software mixer to behave (i.e. all the disadvantages of a huge cumbersome hardware desk with none of the obvious advantages of software).

I hope Mattias will feed this back to PH - the "Reason Rack" as a standalone product, including all the soundbanks, RE and Refill capability, and I guess costing about 1/2 to 2/3 the full cost of Reason - would be brilliant :)

Hey Anosou, if you work for the props, how about checking into why it takes so long to get approved as a RE developer. Been over a week now, not even a confirmation of application.

How are they to know what you already have?
if uyou mean 3rd party racks then that issue is with them not the Prop heads

Hey Mattias. I'm curious about the demoing of REs.

From what I understand, you have to authorize through the internet to try out an RE.

Is it a one shot internet authorize, and I can demo the RE for 30 days offline after that?

Do I have to stay connected to the internet for the entire time I demo?

Do I have to connect each time i want to demo the same RE?

For the record, I do own Reason 6 and will install 6.5 in the future.

Thanks!

Just looked this up! The SDK has not yet reached 1.0 so we're not really comfortable letting everyone on just yet. This is planned for June 30th and is still on track. Sorry we haven't been in touch about that but as you might imagine we've been slightly busy lately. :)

For trying REs you need to use internet verification throughout the 30 days. Only purchased REs will be writable to an Ignition Key. You don't have to stay connected to the internet the entire time but when you open a new song or export it'll double check the verification.
