Technology is littered with examples of superior technology that fails. You have to deliver superior technology that people need/want in a way they will choose to consume it.
Unfortunately, rack extensions are superior tech that meets a niche market of people who only use Reason or just like to buy stuff twice.
Just downloaded Reason 6.5 plus a couple of RE's from the shop...

Hi Mattias. I had problems when uninstalling and re-installing the Betas on Windows 7. Here's how I fixed it.Anosou wrote:Authorizer 2 is a bigger window with a list of DL licenses (or an empty one if you have none). It's started via the website and you can't launch the website from the authorizer. That's the main difference from 1.Goseba wrote:@ anosou,
thanks. I am away from my music PC now, but it was RSN650 I know. I'll clear cookies too when I go back to it.
How do I know it is Authoriser 2? I wouldn't remember what Authoriser 1 looked like.
Worst case scenario and you can't get it working during the weekend a fresh install of Reason might be beneficial. Some users report beta files not getting overwritten properly but we're still investigating.

I think the codemeter application when run standalone fixes possible registry keys and firewall settings.

There is one other Gem: Combinator min/max values now reflect the source in the programmer. On/Off/Bypass switches are no longer 1/0/2, they say the name. And knobs that use something other than 0-127 show that number too (like Softtube's saturator knob goes from 0.0 to 10.0. It's a step in the right direction IMO.Anosou wrote:Ah sorry! Rack Extensions are just another plugin format, and proprietary at that. I don't see the connection between REs and hardware. Hardware can be purchased once and used with almost any modern DAW.saturdaysaint wrote:I'd hardly call the vast majority of musicians (in this man's estimatebillcarroll wrote:Rack extensions are a huge fail in my opinion. The biggest market isn't for existing VST collectors - it's for the vast untapped market of fairly non-technical musicians who hardly consider software instruments to be "instruments" (unless the software is encased in a hardware unit for some reason
) and who regard the idea of "installing" a sound effect VST as foreign as programming their lovemaking. For the vast untapped market, dead-simple DRM and high stability trump "openness" any day of the week. It's why I see performing musicians using included plugins (in Live and Logic) and systems that include lots of sounds like Reason and Maschine more than anything else (well, other than hardware). In that respect, I think Props regard *hardware* as their real competitor.

Thank you.
Got your point.
I'll be more passive. I use Reason as well for many years. Still I do not like the RE implementation...

11. Yes, I agree that sucks. Just as much as a lot of devs who don't allow transfers either. Or charge $50.00 per license like IKmultimedia.liquidsound wrote:8. Can't resellfesteringheap wrote:4. 12. ReWire seems confusing for some people.
Piece of cake. Instead of some folks attacking usernames, maybe they could learn something useful and check out a tut or two...
13.Liquid, you got two 9s...you are not stretching, I know what you mean. Personally, I also need some mics for vox and drums and guitars and basses, but yes, I know people doing amazing stuff with Reason 3 Rewired into their DAW. Nobody really needs anything new anymore. If you can't be creative and produce great results with the stuff that has already been developed so far, then maybe it's time to pack it in. Nobody really learns their kit anymore: they play around, get inspired, then bored, and move on to the next new thing.
14.You can still sell your VST/AU, but you usually take a big loss in doing so. Best not to get swayed by the ad BS and only buy stuff you know you will always use. See # 11.

Have you used the SSL much? IMO, it's fantastic sounding, both surgical and musical. I'd like some kind of spectrum tool for analysis (I've also been spoiled by logic too), but hey, the knob look is in vogue on the high end Waves EQs and Compressors that all the Gearslutz are drooling over too. I probably wouldn't hesitate to get a spectrum RE when they become possible, but really, the 4 bands on the SSL and the HPF/LPF get me to problem frequencies just as fast.ttoz wrote:yes, now boosting is completely taken care of. there is no nicer eq to do that with:)kmonkey wrote:What about Softube Trident EQ? That's nice EQ
but something is still needed for surgical cuts..
and to completely eliminate low end is impossible right now
even if someone releases like a 3 band high pass filter or something
it will be enough

Just need to clarify a thing I said before. While you currently can't transfer Rack Extension licenses, this is not completely set in stone for the future. I just don't know but that's how it is right now!

I know. I finally learned to be a money-music wise and this is why I will never buy if I can't use it when and where i need it.festeringheap wrote:14.You can still sell your VST/AU, but you usually take a big loss in doing so.
