For some devs its not a lot of time and effort to convert products already available to RE's, and as Reason has a pretty big pool of users, its worth doing it financial.

I'm not sure that is really the case, you would basically be paying Props to host and to a degree through their store market your app. It isn't that much different than having your box sit on a store shelf. And based on Urs remarks (from U-he) the dev environment is easy to deal with, and that could cut costs.

My issue with it all is that it is a closed system and doesn't integrate well with other DAWs. Regular Rewire is not ideal, if they updated ReWire to be more 'native' as a slave or make a VST rack to host RE plugins I would be more interested even with the closed system limitations.

What I would really like to see is free/cheap REs. They said that was fine, they only take a portion of the profit and if there is little or no profit.... it could be a really good place for all the freeware/donationware devs that would love a small donation to sell their wares, and if there were a huge number of convenient, decent $5 apps it would be really cool. I'd go for that.

Yeah, it's just speculation on my part. And I have no idea what Reason's market share is. If I had to guess I'd say it's way less than 20% of the total market.

I have seen posts by developers saying they can't migrate over the full functionality of their products. I've also seen posts related to issues with changing up the GUI, moving to 3D and changing the layout of the plugin considerably. Sounds like a decent amount of work to me.

I have a feeling even the developers who are building REs now are waiting to see what the revenue stream looks like before committing fully.

Reason is cool. I own a few propellerhead products. I'm just really interested to see how this plays out over time. Had they announced 3rd party plugin support for AU/VST I would have upgraded my Reason 3 license immediately.

What if the RE format is adopted by other hosts down the road? What if the PH's have made a better mouse trap?

It would only work that way in a modular host. If you dont have one of those you just use the vst

Maybe props could implement a system where users are only allowed to sell on their RE licenses through them and they take 30% of the cut!
