It's very nice. Bought it during sale and it was worth every penny (at the reduced price).

But, I'm not entirely friends with its sound. There's something weird that happens with bright sounds. It fizzles in an unpleasant way. This makes bright sounds lack punch and definition. Sound-wise, I prefer Sylenth1, but Dune is more flexible for sure.

I only have the CM version but definitely it is a great synth. I saw it on sale for $85 in the market, if I didn't already have so many synths + the CM version I would have bought it definitely.

i use them both, they balance each other out nicely.

there are a decent number of soundsets available for dune...check their forum.
sylenth1 is just ridiculous tho...i have about 100 soundsets, and have abandoned sleeping, so i can continue to check out all those sounds... :D

When I tried the demo and indeed thought it sounded great - had some of the Gladiator "3d-Gloss" tone to it that I like.

But load/saving presets was a major f**king pain and I realised that without some kind of tagging system it'd be yet another "sounds-great-but-which-sound-was-it?" synth.

There really are so many good VSTi out there now that it's seemingly little things like that that make the difference TBH - workflow is everything as far as I'm concerned.

+1

Especially the simplicity of programming it attracts me.

Here's a quick comparison to show what I mean.

For some reason Soundcloud added some rumble/scratching type of sound in the second two sweeps that definitely wasn't there in the .Wav, nor when I converted it to MP3 with WinLame. So just disregard that.

First is Dune, second is Sylenth1 and finally the Virus TI

Listen especially in the beginning (filter open) how different they are. Clearly if I spent more than 1 minute I could make Sylenth1 sound exactly like the Virus. I could probably get close with Dune too, but it seems to take more effort. I'm finding many other uses for Dune though, so it's not "bad", just different.

for sure its very underated, prob cos its too advanced for the average user. add that to the 'lack' of soundbanks, and you get a middle of the road reaction from preset whores....

soundwise i think its on a par with the best, and V2 is coming with many improvements, so maybe that will lift it up more into the 'talked about on forums' status

sales wise i think its done pretty well, i know my soundbank has over the past year or so.

*IMO* I think Dune's popularity has nothing to do with sound quality but it's programming. The 8 voice concept controllable through the matrix makes it hard to click with. It requires reading! :hihi:

I save presets in my host's system when I find something I like in any synth, this gives me a short list of what I want to use in a project vs. all the presets I have for that particular synth. I may even rename them to something more memorable, and then tweak them of course to my liking. The original name is still there for reference too (usually) in the plugin's GUI.

When I tried Dune I had a hard time dialing in the envelopes. And I also felt like the filter's didn't behave properly, the way the volume automatically decreased when you added resonance. Not sure if they changed that.
Has anybody ever really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like?

DUNE did generate a lot of excitement when it first came out, especially here iirc.

I will echo what others have said, It is a really good and easy to program synth, most of the best sounds don't even need the mod-matrix for anything other than simple routing. It does have some sound weaknesses though, in my opinion it's bass is a little weak, I almost never use any resonance with the lowpass filters because it just sounds way to bright and fizzly and they don't sound as lively as Sylenths. The Unison while very smooth and pleasant is not quite as crisp and clear as Sylenth either.

However, none of that takes away from the fact that it is a really good synth for certain types of sound. I have both Sylenth1 and DUNE and wouldn't like to choose between them. I actually find DUNE gives me more satisfying results in unison sounds and Sylenth in more filter dependent sounds. DUNE does have a really fresh "current" sort of sound to it.

About that audio demo though, when you bounce down a track with DUNE you need to pre-trigger the sound before the part you want to record. In other words there is a phasing issue with all the oscillators for the first second or so and then it smooths out, so the attack you hear on that demo is not "normal" its just as though DUNE is warming up so to speak, Largo does this too when you whack up the unison. So you to give it a few seconds of warm up material before the record section depending on the patch settings.

Also, I believe Richard is serious about his projects and that's what excites me the most, he's clearly got a talent (or him and his team at least) for creating something really immediate and usable and I think he's going to be around for a while.

This is normal, and it's possible with all synths that have certain types of filters in them.
The cause is in the way your programming it, and which filter your using.
Not some permanent feature in it.
Diva does it too, with the moog filters, if you have other certain settings in your patch.
To test what I'm saying out. Listen to other presets, and raise the resonance, and the majority of them do not do what your stating.
To change that behavior in your own patch, just run through different filters until you find it not doing that, or you can change some other settings in your patch, like lowering the cutoff, or even the PW or FM changes. Then that volume lowering with the resonance up problem, will not happen.

I love Dune a lot, and spent a whole year programming patches in it.
The results exceeded my expectations.
It's capable of a lot of diverse sounds.
Have fun with it ttoz.
:)
