I have DCAM and I would have to say that it's most certainly worth the price.
I think Cypher does really good bass and lead sounds, but I really don't like it for strings or pads sounds. Cypher has this certain roughness that don't work so well for softer sounds. I've had the same feeing about many real analog synths as well. I can't imagine why DCAM wouldn't work with any kind of electronic music that needs harder sounds. Somehow everytime I play with Cypher I think about producing some psytrance with it.

DCAM Synthsquad... is a must have!
For the VA sound ("Virus like") Sonic Academy "Ana"
(Massive is the most recommendation for all kind of progressive stuff. But you always own it, so all is fine

And yes i have ANA and yes i have also a Virus
If something Virus like is needed(also with similar capabilities) - Zebra 2.5 is the closes choice.

This answer is almost as lame as the description of what sounds you want to create...
You can make almost any sound with DCAM, or NI, or Uhe... etc

Only thing thats lame here is your attitude.

sorry, for saying things how they are...! what sort of sounds are you after, you're description 'progressive' is quite vague and can be answered with any synth.
I think Cypher is great and 'softer' sounds can be made by turning down the drive into the filters, lessening any 'noise' sources and generally rolling off the top end or notching out the 'harsh' frequencies if you would still have any. To say Cypher is not good for prog is crazy - but - I would say that Strobe (also part of DCAM) would likely be a better starting point for 90% of your bread and butter sounds.. So in summary, you could make Prog music with only DCAM.
Massive has also been mentioned, this is another very flexible synth, very easy to use and great to controls with it's macro's.
U-he ACE is a great value synth that would open up a wider range of sounds and be a good compliment to one of the first two.
