Please list all the lfo midi vsts you know of. I'm using pizmidi's and it works fine but i'd like one with multiple lfos in one plugin that can send to multiple cc's. Free of course is best :-)

Not sure about sending CCs as I don't do such things, but LFOTool, particularly in it's new 'on-steroids' version absolutely kills.

Cableguys Midishaper
Image

4 LFO's, 10 custom drawable waveshapes to source from, envelope controlled, the three usual destinations and 6 assignable CC destinations per LFO. 30 bucks. This is really easy to set up, and the design is great; home run for the Cableguys. Cheapest and most user friendly LFO plug-in out there IMO.

Also, if your really feeling geeked out and want to be a control freak over your CC modulations, there are programs like Bidule and Numerology that are like the midishaper, only basically complete hosts/sequencers themselves. Numerology offers not only Envelopes and LFO's, but also CC sequencers that can be in step or linear mode. Bidule is a bit more complicated, but it is completely modular and can host VST's and AU's. I use both running in standalone just synced and spitting CC between my hosts instruments and back, tho both are capable of hosting instruments themselves I don't use them in that capacity. They can be gated with note on's so it's like an extension of a synth patch.:)

Numerology is Mac only.

Midishaper doesn't really work as an AU. You can't gate the LFO's to re-trigger with note on/note off, but you can with the VST version.

Bidule is Mac and PC, but has a really, really steep learning curve.

Wonder whether my advice worth a penny? Check my music at Soundcloud and decide for yourself.

Thanks guys I'll be checking these all out. BTW, I tried Cableguys Midishaper in Studio One and it simply didn't show up in my VST list, has anyone had it work in that host?

Thanks!

MoCon8 LFO is working nicely, 8 in one is great for MicroTonic!

MUX VST coming up next with LFO and tons of modulating capability.
MuLab free has it built in as well and it's modular DAW.

I recently went through most of these and find MidiShaper to be the best.

LFO Tool is also great, but only sends one CC at a time per instance although you get a great filter plugin at the same time, and you can always use more instances.

MIDISeq! and MIDIMod! from Sonic Assault are very good and free:

(beware of false virus warnings with these, you might have to set an exeption)

Another good basic one is JS: cc_lfov1.0, part of ReaJS. Has host sync tempo, channel select, center line etc:

Nicifit's are also useful, but a bit unstable in my opinion, and the 8LFOs from Dunk a bit too simple maybe, as is InsertPiz' midiSimpleLFO.

Your MIDILifeCrisis seems very good too RunBeerRun, but seem to lack tempo sync and MIDI channel select, will test it some more, thanks.

Well any midi effects are out because Studio One can't use them. So they have to be VSTi not VST effects. 8LFOs would be perfect except it looks like there is a bug where the setting from the 'set to' menu doesn't work, so I have to manually set the value and so don't really know what value it is, nor if it is midi synced (doesn't look like it/definitely not easy to work with). And it seems overall a wee bit buggy.

So far for Studio One at least the most reliable is midiSimpleLFO, it is really good except has only one LFO per instance. Maybe I'll write pizMidi dev and see if there is any way to adjust that.

Surely something you've missed as that seems too unlikely. I know some DAWs are weird when it comes to MIDI plugins like FL where I think they have to be loaded in the mixer (!) first before you can send its data to a plugin (after manual routing), so check the manual if it's something similar.

Nah, it is a limitation of the DAW itself, it doesn't support midi plugin effects, it supports VSTi that SEND midi out, so I can use VSTi arps and stuff, happily the pizMidi stuff all works beautifully, but this is just simply not part of its capabilities unfortunately.

Braj, I'm not sure how this works on a PC, but you should check out Bidule. If you treat it like an "external MIDI instrument", you can use it to host MIDI VST's and your Synths. I use it all the time to host VST's that are not compatible in Logics AU format, including the midishaper.

It's easy as hell to set it up in Rewire. I don't use it via Rewire because Logic's timing isn't as tight compared to traditional sync (I'm recording Bidule MIDI to tracks in Logic, not just hosting plug-ins)

I will try it, though I can't try the plugin unless I purchase it, and I'm not exactly sure it will do what I need. How does the VST work exactly?
