Help with playing brass

Hey guys, I recently got my hands on a brass VST and I want to use it correctly in my productions. I was playing chords with the trumpet section of the VST and then I realized that brass instruments can't play chords. I was trying to make a song similar to this one:

Can someone explain to me the brass stabs that come in at 0:18? Is a single note being played? Is it just the same note as that synth bass? Help would be much appreciated, thanks.

Well what happens is you can have a few horn players instead of just one trumpet. So when they play different notes at the same time, you can have a chord.
