Just got the 49-Key "Analog Experience The Laboratory", which comes with 3 free downloads. There are 8 to choose from. I'm interested in Minimoog V but not sure which of the other 7 for the other 2 (Arp2600 V, Prophet V, Jupiter8 V, MoogModular V, CS80 V, Oberheim SEM V or Spark VDM). Maybe Arp2600 V and Prophet V? I don't know which is the best (most versatile) software to choose, esp. for a beginner. The Special Offer section comes with a warning: YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO CHANGE THIS CHOICE! :help:

Well, maybe the best (but not necessarily the most versatile) option for a beginner is the Minimoog V, which you already mentioned.

Another worhwhile point might be, that the Prophet V also offers a hybrid mode between the Prophet 5 and Prophet VS - these sounds are not included in "Analog Factory" (I guess it's the same with the "Laboratory" ?!)

Well, else, it's a matter of preference of sound,
though for Spark VDM there are a couple of alternatives out there
(Drum samples, Drum sampler like Battery, specialized synths for drums like microsynth, Tremor and the like).

Cheers

hello,

Here is Denis from Arturia. The Prophet V is included in Analog Laboratory and Analog Factory.

All the best,

Denis

Without too much hands on experience with the Arturia products, I would probably opt for Minimoog V (as you suggested), Jupiter V or Prophet V (personal preference would be the Jupiter) and Spark VDM. I believe these are reasonably easy to understand for a beginner. And since you indicate you're just beginning I would include Spark VDM, as it will give you some nice drumsounds to go with the synths. I believe that would be a pretty all round package.

Something like the Arp 2600 or Moog Modular are ondoubtly nice machines, but I would hardly use them for music making, more for fiddling with knobs and experimenting (which would detract me from making music). But then again, that's just me.

The Arturia Arp is totally worth it. It's one of the rarest beasts that I know of: even the presets are good. I dunno if it sounds like an Arp because I've never had one, but it is pretty raw and flexible. The Moog Modular I was less much impressed with. It's a pretty unfriendly GUI imo. It's like all the negatives of a real modular (takes a lot of space, can be hard to find stuff), without nearly enough of the advantages. I dig the CS80, too, and the sound is very different. Those would be my choices to go with the Minimoog.

I have them all (and spark). I would recommend in order of my preference...
SEM (latest and definitely greatest.....)
Cs80
Moog v

Jupiter 8V is a must :)

I also just purchased the 49-Key "Analog Experience The Laboratory" and I can't believe more people aren't jumping on this amazing promotion. Not sure how much longer the offer for 3 free synths is available.

* Edit * just checked the Arturia site and the promo for 3 free synths lasts until June 30th.

Hi Denis,

I think you misunderstood me.
Sure the Prophet V is included,
but the access to the Hybrid mode and presets is unique to the Prophet V software as far as I know.
Didn't meant to cause some confusion...

Minimoog V is awesome, I'm using it a lot for the bass, makes it quite fat, very good

I'd go for (in order):

Sem V (Lush. Currently, along with Diva and Xils 3, the only synth i use)
Jupiter 8
CS 80

Have to say I found the Prophet and Arp prone to crashing when I tried it out but that was a while ago. The Minimoog is okay but G-force's Minimonsta is a better option if your after that kind of sound (sorry, don't want to start one of those arguments...). Depends on the sounds you're after I suppose.

You should really check out the demo's before making a decision.

Have fun!

:D

Oberheim SEM... The only synth I can recommend. Jupiter8 is ok but I hate the interface, so no recommendation.

Minimoog is not bad. But it's some of the worst Minimoog emulations, they are placed after Diva and Minimonsta... But! Forget about the Minimoog emulation stuff and see it as a VA... Nice! Sounds nice, easy to use, uses not much resources, sounds analogue. For this aspect the Minimoog is not bad but a bit expensive for such limited synth (I would not pay 230€ for such a synth).

To be honest, buy other synth. Arturia is expensive and most are only average emulations. One exception eventually the last Oberheim SEM. But I bought it with the introductory offer, I'm not sure if it's worth the full price of 229€.

I echo this, but with the Prophet instead of the Moog.

The big modulars sound OK, but I haven't found them very satisfying to use. The Factory has enough presets for them to keep me happy. You can find a minimoog elsewhere done much better. The SEM is the only synth that I can recommend to people on its own merits, not just as a freebie. The Prophet is just shy of that recommendation, but some of the UI really bothers me.

SEM V and Spark VDM are the best Arturia products, IMO.
