According to figures, Arturias giveaway was extremely popular.

So just for the statistics: Did it make you want to get any of their commercial products?

Simple Yes/No choice.

No Fish.

Yes to fish!!! :x :x

Actually it really did not convince me..I was already considering it before the offer came up.

My thoughts on it were simply "eh"
"I was wondering if you'd like to try Magic Mushrooms"
"Oooh I dont know. Sounds a bit scary"
"It's not scary. You just lose a sense of who you are and all that sh!t"

I said no only because I've owned them before and am very familiar with them already. I might grab the SEM some day, who knows.

But the free mini actually solved my occasional desire to get the minimoog V back. I find that most of the Arturia synths sound very similar, just with different signal flows and I think the mini had the best sound.

I got it but I dont care for vintage analog emulations and that is what a lot of Arturia's products are...

I will use it, but I do not plant to purchase any VST's with their price tags... If they were no brainers, sure... The free moog was! :P

Post

I'd like to, but probably not going to happen soon due to lack of funds right now.

I have Moog Modular, CS80, ARP 2600, Spark VDM and Oberheim SEM. I didn't buy MiniMoog because I had MiniMonsta instead. I'd like to get the Jupiter 8 out of their other products, but it's far too expensive for my current budget...

Almost the same here: the SEM stands out for sound; it has some modicum of unpredictability to it that makes it sound quite... err... analog, to use the a-word. Not something I need right now (I get that from D-CAM), but maybe someday.

As Echoes says, I think the other synths all sound similar. The Prophet adds a little something digital, but not enough to jump out, particularly when compared to more modern digital VSTs (Largo comes to mind). The CS80V is another synth that occasionally tempts me: it has some really nice soft lead sounds, some great pluck sounds, and (of course) Vangelisy (vanjealousy?) pads. ...but I always end up wanting them to have more beef than they are capable of, and thus it can't compare to more modern VA VSTs (Diva, of course). IMHO, none of them sound as good as the hyperbole implies they should sound; anyone who replaces their hardware with Arturia's thinking they have the same sound needs their ears checked. But, of course, VSTs are easier to use, they sound pretty good, and they can do additional things that the hardware can't, so I can understand buying them for convenience.

I do think the Analog Experience family of products in an insane value for the money. I haven't gotten it because I don't need another controller and I prefer the sound of other VSTs... but I still think it's a class act and worth considering for folks new to the game.

I also think the V-Collection is actually a good bang for the buck. ...Again, not something I need, but I would also recommend it to someone just starting out.

WRT the poll: yes, it made be (re-)consider Arturia, because it does sound nice. ...But not nice enough. I considered it. Then I decided against it. :)

It didn't make me want to buy any of Arturia's products right now, but it did improve my opinion of their products in general.

I had heard some negative things about Arturia synths so had never tried them, but was really impressed with the Minimoog, especially the full version when I demoed it to try the missing features.

The giveaway made me aware of the hybrid madness deal with their keyboards and I've been meaning to upgrade my keyrig 49 to a keyboard controller with knobs, sliders, and aftertouch and found an Arturia Laboratory at audiodeluxe for a crazy low price. It's being delivered later today, so I've been demoing all their synths to pick my free ones. :hyper:

So far I'm especially impressed with the SEM (definitely picking that one - I can't stop playing it!) and am surprised how much I like the Arp2600, but I've never tried the timewarp one to compare. The Jupiter doesn't really interest me as I'm so happy with Diva. The CS-80V seems capable of some really unique sounds, and the Prophet hybrid mode is also interesting. The Moog Modular seems quite capable of some great sounds, but not very pleasant to tweak.

Yes! I was not that familiar with them. While their stuff seems to have a certain niche (as opposed to more rounded soft synths like fm8), the sound is impressive and the presets are excellent. I have no budget for now, but they are without a doubt on my short list of stuff I want to buy.

Post

Yes but I still don't like their iLok requirements such as with Jupiter-8.

PS: And I even own an iLok.

Post

I'm an occasional Arturia user (moog modular/cs80/jupiter8v/arp2600/sem) so it was the other way round. The Moog sounds good:) And for nada it's amazing!
Don't really get why people are so down on Arturia sometimes... horses for courses as far as I'm concerned.

Yes.
