Yeah, the two knob wet/dry thing has some advantages, but also disadvantages. For mastering, it's really nice to be able to leave the dry set and dial up the wet. It's a tradeoff, I guess. In this case, I wish they'd gone with one and added a range control. I'm getting more used to the interface, though it still seems to be off by a decade or two. I guess at some point it won't matter to me if I keep using it.
There's nice UA article that covers the knee shape for the 4K bus comp and includes a graph. 2:1 is very soft (basically, all knee) and 4:1 is hard, as is 10:1. I'd like to think the PSP uses the 2:1 soft knee for 2:1 and less, and transitions from soft to hard (TWSS) from 2:1 to 4:1 and stays hard from 4 to 10 (good lord, weenies and now this). But who knows, about the knees, that is.

judging by your activity in these forums and if they had to be so unusual for you, i'm afraid you wouldn't find the time to sleep if you had to talk to yourself as intensively as you state it !

Did anyone get the PSP email? They confirmed that BussPressor is a nod towards the SSL.
I bought it yesterday, as it's the first character buss comp I haven't wanted to bypass the next day. This is important to me, as it's normally only with fresh ears I'm able to say "yes, it definitely sounds better with it on".
Nice taming and glueing effect it has, with a long attack, med release, s/c @ 110hz & auto release mode on. Works for me anyway (mostly electronica, dubstep & edm).
Plus it was fairly cheap with intro & loyalty.

Here's the e-mail. I thought others might find it interesting. Hope this is OK. Confirms my feelings about oldtimer.
Dear user,
After releasing the PSP BussPressor we became aware that there is some confusion regarding the differences between our various dynamics processor plug-ins. In this short email we would like to explain the main differences.
All of PSP dynamic processors are based on unique algorithms. They do not share characteristics except for the FAT double sampling used in the PSP VintageWarmer and the PSP MasterComp. Each PSP compressor/limiter plug-in represents a different approach to dynamic processing.
The PSP BussPressor is based on the character of the SSL BusCompressor but we tuned our plug-in to be slightly rougher when compared to some other VCA plug-in clones. In our opinion when used aggressively the PSP BussPressor is highly suitable for rock music. In the Auto mode the character changes and the plug-in can be used to add a smooth "gluing" effect. Another benefit of the BussPressor is its parallel compression mode but don't forget it also offers a high pass side chain filter useful for reducing kick drum pumping and an adjustable Auto release mode.
The PSP oldTimer is a bit "pillowish" compared to the PSP BussPressor. Although it will not provide the roughness of the PSP BussPressor it is a very versatile compressor, suitable for individual tracks, groups and master busses. It distinctly glues the audio together whenever used and it sounds especially good with (but is not limited to in any way) all acoustic instruments, vocals and entire recordings including jazz and even classical music. PSP oldTImer can be very useful on main tracks in the Mix and whenever a sweet polishing might do the job.
The PSP MasterComp is a compressor designed with transparency in mind. We mainly focused on low distortion when designing the algorithm and then we added special features to control the stereophony and channel linking. The result is a very smooth response suitable for all situations when coloration is not desired.
The PSP MixPressor (included in the PSP MixPack bundle) is a basic compressor created with track processing in mind but also able to process a group. Even though the PSP MixPressor algorithm is simple compared to our other compressors it still offers plenty of controls which combined with its range of compression curves make this plug-in unique and versatile.
The PSP VintageWarmer is a kind of special brick wall limiter plug-in. Although it can be set for a long release time its response is always usual for limiters. The only way to get transients thru is to use Warmer's Mix feature to get parallel processing. Using the knee and timing settings carefully a nice density can be achieved from a track.

PSP ( those guys from sunny Poland !
) are on my "just buy it " most trusted list of dev's!!!!!!! I'm no expert , but they seem to have a bit of a clue when it comes to DSP !!!!
Financial solvency and KVR Mix as well as oil and water.

I didn't read it (yeah, got it) and it's not surprising. Pretty much "buss" and "compressor" is synonymous with the SSL (sure, there a couple of exception but why nitpickaudiosabre wrote:Did anyone get the PSP email? They confirmed that BussPressor is a nod towards the SSL.

I'll give it a read. Still haven't tried it because it's like "another compressor" and I'm pretty anti compression........I've give it a whirl tonight maybe.
EDIT: Better get on that! Expires soon (is Poland before or behind cali/usa??)

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
I'm no expert but it seems to do as advertised. No latency (at least reported in reaper) controls work.
One thing (among many) I suck as is really "knowing" what I'm doing with a buss compressor. Oh, I know snare, bass, kick, yadda. But now with the buss you are kinda re-compressing things no? Isn't there a tendency to just go "whoa, it's louder so it sounds better?"
EDIT: I wish that I could try the SSL again because that kinda got me started on this path and seems I really liked that (but it didn't work well in reaper/not supported)

I'm in at 64.80 USD.
A funny thing about PSP is that you don't even get an automated thanks for your purchase. I mean Digital River / Element 5 thanked me on their and PSP's behalf, I suppose. They did demand that I "Become Our Fan on Facebook!!!" So, I did as commanded (they are my only like right now).

Dear, please, enjoy, sincerely, but no thanks. No, I'm not making a big deal out of this. We, the paying users of software products, are who keep these guys afloat (not just PSP) and pay for other people to use them for free. We also endure the copy protection that legitimate software forces on us. Where's the love, PSP?Dear [redacted],
Your purchase order has been processed successfully and the following plug-ins have been added to your account:
1. PSP BussPressor
Please [blah, blah, blah]
Enjoy using our products.
Sincerely,
PSP Team

BussPressor seems to be great, well done
But Element5 seems to be quite hefty when it comes to currency exchange. In their book $86.60 are 76.51€. According to the current rate it should be about 68.40€. 10% extra for the currency exchange? That's steep
