AFAIK Kontakt is only sold in boxed version format period. It is 48 Gigabytes over 5 DVDs for the full installation..

I opted for the boxed version with free shipping.

no worrying about the download.. no backing up the installer.. it will take a week to get here.. but I have time. And if I don't have time then I guess I have larger fish to fry than a music app.

(actually, I got very lucky with K4, it came quickly compared to many many others way back then)

I think it's ridiculous that I have 300-something Euros worth of Kontakt 4 sitting around, and since Kontakt 5 is out ... all the Libraries that were formerly sold as Kontakt 4 libraries are now sold as Kontakt 5 Libraries and NI's support explicitly told me in an eMail that the Kontakt libraries they sell no longer work with K4 and I would be required to update to K5 first.

"Hey, hey, lookie, lookie, K-libs cheapy, cheapy!

But you MUST upgrade to K5 first, which will be an additional 99€, thank you very much." *ka-ching*

That's just a f*cking rip-off.

This isn't correct.

All of the libraries on sale run in the Free Kontakt player so you don't have to pay an additional 99 Euro.

I have full version Kontakt 4 (which runs most of my libraries), and a few that work only in Kontakt 5 (like Scarbee Funk Guitar). I simply installed the Kontakt 5 Player and it works without restriction in the K5 Player.

It seems they have a lot of sales. They have Kontakt 5 not in stock here in the NI headquarter in Berlin. Hopefully I must not wait too long

You can now get Damage as a direct downloadable straight from the Heavocity website for the same price as NI. Additional note: it's a 15 GB download.

Good to know! I've heard nothing but good things about the Scarbee stuff and may have to look more closely now.

I've had a lot of instruments I've bought here that only run in "demo mode" in the Player, and it gets WAY old quickly.

I prefer the IK model, they give you an unrestricted, fully working player, you buy content from anyone you choose. Simple!
