In F17 (and also F16) I start up ZynAddSubFX, select a synth, and I don't hear any sound.

Interestingly, the version of ZynAddSubFX that's built into Linux MultiMedia Studio (LMMS) does make sound.

Suggestions?

My guess is that it is not connected to any output.
If it starts up with jack audio, it will not connect to the system:playback ports unless the autoconnect (-a) option was specified.
Otherwise, unless it has defaulted to NULL output, it should play correctly.

There seems to be some issue with getting jack to interact with ALSA. When I attempt to run lash in terminal I get a bunch of error messages (can't post the output here because of the spam filter).

NVM, I've figured out the problem. I had jack installed but not qjackctl (the GUI for jack ... which Fedora's subpar package manager's search wasn't helping me find). I run it, connect ZynAddSubFX to System Playback, and voila. Sound.
