Silent Way: Can Step LFO trigger envelopes in Voice Controller?

I have just bought Silent way (1.7) and it is really a fantastic software. I am building a minimal modular system and was hoping to use the envelopes in Silent way, and haven't bought any envelope modules yet. It works fine if I play from a MIDI keyboard via Cubase on Mac, my VST host. But then I want to use the Step LFO as a sequencer. It works fine to trigger notes and trigger pitch. But I want to use the Voice Controller after the Step LFO so the Step LFO triggers the envelopes in Voice Controller, since I don't have any envelope modules in my system. I can't get this to work. Is it possible? I can put a LFO after the Step LFO and it works ok with the pitch, and I can use DC after Step LFO, and it also works fine for example on pitch.
But if I place the Voice controller after step LFO, it just outputs fixed pitches, and the envelopes are not triggered.

I have looked at the insert routings in Cubase, and it seems it can't connect both gate and pitch at the same time. I can shift the inputs and outputs on the Voice controller insert in the routing panel in Cubase, so I can have either gate or pitch, but not both at the same time.
I have tried both with a 5.1 audio track and a stereo track, but the same problem persists.
Any suggestions?
