Shame that you don't have the time.
but when you think about how time you spend tweaking certain plugs, it's not that much more time-consuming maybe...
You also get the benefit of trying different mike positions, on axis, off axis, in the shell, outside the shell, close in, backed off a bit, all good for your training your ears.
Anyway, when you do it yourself by "recording moving air" you are starting from a place where there aren't a lot of people trying out the same "presets".
As the thread started with the idea of doing something fresh and never heard before, taking a whole different approach might pay off.
And while I am on the "create by moving air" thing.
How about singing your "drum loops" into your songs and then using a "Sound Replacer" to put in the real drum sounds to create your ideal rythmn. Faster than auditioning 555 different loops just to find out that what you choose is in everyone else's top 10. I am not the only one who does this, crazy as it might seem.
Dear old Micheal Jackson (may he rest in peace) used to sing rythmns, guitar riffs, horn arrangements, almost everything to his session men to tell them what he was hearing in his head and he got some pretty good results every once and a while.
I need a new effect that is different!!!!

Well analog experimentation tends to take a lot more time and resource to accomplish as compared to the same with digital toys.
And, as the gap between the possibilities of the two narrows every day, Im comfortable in having fooled myself into thinking that I am... charting an efficient vector to my sonic interests.
In either case, if OP is just using drumloops and presets like you imply, and chasing a plugin to make things sound different, itll be a long search.
There is much more to the non-analog world than loops and presets and painting by number.

Agreed, but it is healthy to change your usual diet from time to time.
Doing things differently can open up possibilities that you didn't expect or suspect were there to exploit.
There is a reason why so many big name artists have worked with Brian Eno he is always pushing people to get out of a rut and challenge themselves by presenting new ways of approaching the creative process.
Variety is the spice of life.....
