Agreed! I'm in the same boat.bluedad wrote:If I can't make music with what I've got, a new synth or fx isn't going to help.
I buy no-brainers and really low priced items (30 and under) here and there. But largely I'm set and will only be buying upgrades to what I already own. (Komplete 9 maybe..)

Most software provides new inspiration in some form, either by the sound character itself, the workflow, the signalflow and/or the interface. I am a lover of sound and experimenting with synthesized sound so I do not place a limit where this could go. When confronted with new designs on the market these days I am quite critical. If I like it and it inspires me I download the manual and the demo and give it a go. I am a HUGE fan of manuals. They can tell you (warn you) A LOT about a product before the purchase. Many companies betray themselves with weak manuals and other companies take advantage of this contact with the user to teach great techniuqe and help the user become well-acquainted with an instrument while demoing it.
That said, there is not a single pirated piece of software on this machine and so this means I use my hard-earned economy to pay for all of my tools. Of course I will not simply throw money left and right without a VERY good...and cautious investigation of the products first.
I also stand back from a piece of software and think to myself, "Will this continue to provide these initial sparks of inspiration or have I exhausted the possibilities during the demo phase?"
I also take a good hard look at the SUPPORT and Development of a product.
I also take a look at User contact in the form of videos and forums, etc.
I consider all of this and more. I have maybe 10-15 software synthesizer and I love something(s) about all of them, depending on my mood and state of mind when I sit here.

Huh. No matter how much I like a piece when I'm making it, or even when I'm done with it, I can't listen to it afterwards. It's probably one of the reasons I do a lot of live improvisation that I never bother recording.foosnark wrote:Right now the lack is with me, not my gear. I threw myself off electronic music for a while and need to just spend a lot of time noodling, erm, researching, to get back where I can make things I want to listen to ever again.

I prefer "Vauxhall and I", but that's not in the poll.

I try hard now to not add anything new to my setup. To be honest I really don't need anything more right now but there's always the temptation when something new comes out.
I find the best way to stop myself adding stuff is to install the demo versions and use them for the full 30 days before deciding. If I miss it when the trial has expired, it might be worth buying.

I was perfectly happy with what I have until I saw the no brainer from AudioMIDI for Etch.
I am a complete filter nut so when something like this comes around I get all messed up and confused !!! lol

I am missing quite a few things in my arsenal before I'd say it's "complete".
But most of those things are in fact plugins, which are not developed yet.
On the other side I still haven't used the full potential of what I have.
