Are You Happy With Your Arsenal?

I like certain plugins for certain sounds even though many will make nearly anything you are after, for example I am loving Lounge Lizard for electric pianos, I like classic synth emulations just because of the historic geekyness and general ballpark accuracy, I love arpaggiators of all sorts, and some synths have really interesting ones built in. Using a few in tandem with the same chord progression can be really interesting, so having a variety of plugins is like 'strength through diversity' and gets interesting, unexpected results. I wouldn't want to try and get all my sounds from just a few synths, all synths have their own character and just fiddling with them all is part of my fascination. The only thing I'm really missing right now is a killer organ plugin, though I have a bunch of decent patches strung across presets in sample libraries and synths. But like Lounge Lizard, it is cool to have something that does that particular type of sound really well, with the right set of effects and real solid focus on the nature of the particular instrument they model. I've slowed down on my plugin purchases but will be looking to get LinPlug's Organ3 soon, and the new Tal-U-No-62-LX when it comes out.

I'm happy with my music setup, if I never bought another thing I could easily and happily make music for the rest of my life and not feel limited. At this stage, I see new purchases as an avenue to new inspiration and better work flow, more than adding new capabilities. One thing I would like is more space for my music setup, but that would cost much more than the odd VST every so often.
I like to use the software modulars and specialist synths the modulars dont cover, such as Alchemy. I do buy no brainers and buy stuff that covers bases I already have covered such as Synthmaster because they have there own character and the price was right. I have also for a few years now got to the stage where effects are just as appealing to buy, I think when people start out, they are more attracted to synths than effects and its only once you have a range of synths you really pay attention to the possibilities of effects and feel they just as valuable.
For the record I also got the Etch no brainer

Missing for me:
Software: ACE, Stutter Edit, Synlant, FabFilter creative bundle,(until, I see something with a shinny GUI)
Hardware: Good audio monitors, Faster CPU, faster soundcard, second video monitor.

I definitely need a better soundcard. I only have my motherboard's built-in card. I also need audio monitors (not that Kaylee would allow me to use them!) and two video monitors (mine is getting old and cuts out from time to time).abstractcats wrote:Missing for me:

I'm happy with my CPU, though I'm still lusting after the FX 8150, and I'd also like to upgrade to 32GB of memory and a couple of SSDs.

I am fairly satisfied with what I have, however,
I always have my eyes and ears on the lookout for
something new that'll capture my attention.

The only plug-in I'm missing is TimeMachine, which creates more time through additive synthesis...

I would say complete and happy as I have a lot now, but then would honestly be satisfied with just Sylenth, Zebra, Punch, Valhalla Room, CL Series, DC8C, EQuality + Variety of Sound bundle and my DAW effects.
But still debating whether i need Kontakt or not. Trouble with that is that it will undoubtedly be followed by a very expensive buying spree of samplesets, and trying to like the tiny GUI and not-made-for-windows sluggish mouse rolling etc might be too difficult.
Will still buy expensive synths on impulse, although I can control myself better than before and just the wrong copy protection or developer support etc can be enough to stop me getting out the card or even selling. For dirt cheap things I still usually buy without thinking, but have been lucky with a lot of those like Ultra Analog, Xils 3 LE, RP Delay etc.
