"We're a small but passionate team and for the version 1.0 we're currently concentrating on the very basic features that are the same on all three operating systems. AudioUnits only exist on OSX and nearly every AudioUnit plugin is also available as VST, so we decided to spend the development time on other more important features for now. But we're thinking about adding AU support later down the road."

I can respect their answer and look forward to what comes down the road in later version.

Sometimes research has it's advantages :hihi: Though cubase uses vst on mac, many people would prefer AU. Seems like taking a step backward.

RANT TIME: I keep saying it lately, but tech seems to be going in the wrong direction. Maybe that hadron thing did discover a black hole and someone is using the event horizon to propel tech "back to the future part III"

"what are these audio units, and what do they do better than a vst??"

wrong direction? tech, no longer geek but now consumer, has fallen as prey to consumer marketing, it's what happens to pretty much everything  we will end up with a single psychic button

Not according to the direction things are going. Clunky, outdated, expensive and slow development seem to be the order on the horizon.

but look at the fantastic ads!

Personally I don't understand the complaining. I've never been more excited about a new host!

First of all, those of you complaining about the beta delays don't understand software development, let alone audio software development. Shit happens and sometimes a feature that sounds simple to implement turns out to be one of the hardest. I'd rather they take their time and deliver a solid product than rush and deliver crap.

Secondly, I absolutely love that they are supporting clean, cross platform audio libraries. JACK is a million times better than rewire and I'm glad they won't be supporting rewire. Hopefully bitwig will inspire other developers to write JACK compatible applications. Their logic for not supporting AU is sound imo. Most plugins that support mac have VST versions so why not use those? LV2 support will be AWESOME since it is the ultimate plugin format IMO. Open source, light weight, clean, and not proprietary like VST. Bitwig is heading in the right direction and will hopefully push audio software developers in the right direction.

Thirdly, I don't care that it has similar features to Ableton. Is that supposed to be a complaint? I love ableton's workflow so i'm glad to see something similar here.

Lastly, controller scripting! I can't wait to try to make my xbox controller into a DJ controller.

Well, since you asked, I'm finding that while Audio Units might have a better spec, and while they also sometimes have a few more features, many developers create the VST first and then wrap it to make the AU.

Check out the thread for some interesting info and answers from some devs on the topic.

+1

Also it seems they listen to feedback, controller support was very requested in january, now it is here.

Why not, look at stuff like Renoise/reaper and tonneboster fx or ACE synths.

If you know how, you can get a lot of great gear (or bundles) for half of the price of Live (no suite).

Actually I think that if renoise had a piano roll, many wouldnt need anything else and it is 60€, it does have almost everything else for the electronic crowd...

very happy to see that they did see that lots of folks would be interested in using our oter controllers with bitwig.

You can see the pic of the launchpad on their hoome page now.

Hopefully they listened to folks about price
no purchase until everything goes to usb 3.0 and all hosts are 64 bit!
