so i want to know from users here what is regarded as arrogant when producing music. For example I go to a friend and tell him I wil produce a track and it will sound good. the friend says you are arrogant for thinking this. is it really arrogant or is it not arrogant? some people have very high expectations for others to be modest, but I think if you put a lot of work into a track, you are allowed to say it will be good in my opinoin. you should allow critics for it but do you have to put yourself down and say your track will be bad just to sound modest? I think there is a border in having self conciousness and being arrogant? What is the opinon of forum members here aobut that?

I seem to recall the "Ban Vulich!" thread years and years ago where Chuck (rest his soul) kept posting clever takes on "Ban Vulich!" such as

In short, yes it is arrogant if you praise your song before its finished. Good or bad are terms to be left entirely to your audience.

Also it could be delusional. I know I have made many songs I thought were great but others did not have such a high opinion of them

It's fine to praise your song in any way before it's finished - just so long as you deliver.
You're making a pedestal for yourself though, so usually it's best not to add to the normal pressure of creating music.

Ultimately, if you're happy with what you've made then screw the rest.
Of course, if you're talking big bucks with a record label, then their vision of the final product might well differ from your own.

Years ago I've made songs that (at that time) I took for great, but now I laugh at them...

So the greatness is constantly changing...

I would say, as long as you're open for critics and suggestions for improvement, a bit of arrogance isn't harmful... If you don't like your songs yourself, who will?

It's perfectly fine to be express enthusiasm about what you're working on, but people tend to get tired quickly if they feel you mainly express enthusiasm about yourself.

Not saying it's your case - just a general observation.

Thanks a lto for your ansewrs. Because one person I know already finds it arrogant when I say I will produce something good. he says a good musician will never say a track will be good, he says I do not decide whether it is good or bad, but the people who listen do. I am aa very open person and accept some arogance or don#t take it as such.

I said to him. I wil try to create a really good track with key changes and more so that you hopefully like it. the guy does ot accept any track that does not have key changes of the melody and the bassline.

1.Why does the audience get the final say? History is filled with examples of audiences hating works that have since been proven to be classics.

2. The audience also includes the creator. Why is the creator's opinion less important than some third party who might know very little about music?

3. It might not be delusional, see #1 above.

I think that some musicians tend to overstate the importance of the audience because the reason they make music is to become famous and wealthy. There are other reasons to make music.

With point 1, I'd say that good or bad isn't appropriate - someoneone either likes it or not, and there may be a lot of people hearing it..
