Also it could be delusional. I know I have made many songs I thought were great but others did not have such a high opinion of them :hihi:
This too.

I've made songs I thought were great... then months/years later heard them again and literally cringed in confused agony of what I was thinking. :-o

It is interesting how one's brain can hear polished song X and think not-fit-to-be-called-proper-music Y sounds alike.. especially when Y is really a cruddy, misshapen piece of garbage not worthy of anyone's listening time.

I think I've become slightly better though.. at least I've dropped the ego now that I see I'm a crappy producer of all things music.

I've discovered I'm really very uninteresting and ordinary in a lot of ways I thought I wasn't.

Sometimes it takes a few (hundred) steps back to see this.. But it doesn't stop me from continuing to try to improve..

With point 1, I'd say that good or bad isn't appropriate - someoneone either likes it or not, and there may be a lot of people hearing it..
you aren't seeing the point. some things are ahead of a given audience's level of understanding, they want the familiar, they don't want the new, aren't ready for it out of too limited understanding; and later a lot of this improves, out of more exposure to what once was new.

the audience improved, the work was not improved by the audience's apprehension, it is the same work.

what is inappropriate about good vs bad? Frankly that idea seems to stem from people that aren't any good. :)

I'm the best producer here, now everyone STFU and get out of this thread :hihi:

I think 'producing music' in place of becoming a musician, like at all, is a form of arrogance. since you asked.

I wasn't talking about a collective audience, I was meaning individuals. People have varying individual opinions of what they like, and as this is a subjective opinion, using that to then say its good is maybe a sign of arrogance.

And I'd say an audience maybe doesn't improve as you put it, but change as fashions change. For example some of your opinions on musicality can seem a bit old fashioned compared to the present position of 'producing' but I'm presuming you wouldn't say its improved

why do you care what he thinks about music?
or even, why do you care what anybody thinks about anything? do you have your own mind? do you not trust your own mind?

Agreed. That people consider "produce" to be the verb that best defines what they do when they make music is depressing. Consider the verb "produce" applied to everyday life. "Producing" breakfast or a shopping list ... fair enough. But what about "producing" a kiss on you child's cheek, "producing" some banter with your colleagues, "producing" a phone call to your mother? In short, there's no emotion in "produce", and what is music without emotion? A pale reflection, like a photograph compared to the real thing.

For example I go to a friend and tell him I wil produce a track and it will sound good. the friend says you are arrogant for thinking this. is it really arrogant or is it not arrogant? some people have very high expectations for others to be modest, but I think if you put a lot of work into a track, you are allowed to say it will be good in my opinoin. you should allow critics for it but do you have to put yourself down and say your track will be bad just to sound modest? I think there is a border in having self conciousness and being arrogant? What is the opinon of forum members here aobut that?
It's one thing to claim you will make it sound good, and another to say it will sound better than if anybody else did it.

The natural way of pursuading someone - give them a track you produced and they will decide if to ask for your assistance.

If forcing yourself onto somebody that might be seen as arrogant.
- I'm sooooo good, let me do it

may be all talk.

it depends. if you're actually going to create something which fits an appropriate level of 'good' which he will ultimately agree with every single damned time, then maybe its not.

on the other hand, you might create utter crap and not even know that its utter crap in which case it probably would be arrogance, and unfounded arrogance at that.

IMO, arrogance is more to do with attitude than the assertion that you can achieve a thing, though. perhaps the fact that after 6 or 7 years you're (still) posting 'which plugin should I use for X?' posts might prejudice people against your innate ability to make 'good' choices in this realm, be that a fair prejudice or not.

Thinking you can "produce" music before you have any musical skills or knowledge would be pretty arrogant, and seems common on KVR these days. Whatever happened to being a musician?
