This is essentially where I have different opinion. Which is why I think that Daniel Johnston is bigger artist than Frank Zappa for example. Art is not measurable. I say it.

Then we clearly can see WHO is arrogant...
music is intentional noise made by humans or by whales :P
So, THAT is ARROGANT to say that whales make music as good as humans... :hihi:
who said that? Your straw man is easily bested by your language. However the thing here is you're faced with people and their points, which you don't do so well with. hihi'ing and lol'ing doesn't replace keeping up with the points.

So what do you mean? People that approach music from the point of 'I'll be a musician then' are, through that, arrogant creatures to this extent? That's prety desperate. Why do you need to go to such lengths, what do you think you will gain by this? You don't impress as particularly smart by it.

FTR, I do not need to think I am above whale music in any way. Birds can be fantastic musicians to my POV as well.

'Art' means you put the frame around it.

However I have to point out that you said 'bigger' but followed it with 'not measurable' immediately. You aren't really saying much hon.

but to be more precise to hero's point, 'art' derives from 'artifice', which denotes effort. "Artless/effortless" is a vague rhetorical flourish to try and indicate a person that has enough facility (which tends to mean did enough preparation) to not seem to be laborious.

You say that as if it were obvious. But if you look at an actual definition of music in a dictionary, you'll see that it isn't obviously true at all:
dictionary.com wrote:mu·sic [myoo-zik]
noun
1.an art of sound in time that expresses ideas and emotions in significant forms through the elements of rhythm, melody, harmony, and color.
Note the words: 'significant forms'. I don't want to be a fascist or anything, but one might reasonably wonder if "Clapping your hands and gibbering some cheap lyrics" qualifies as 'significant'.
Still waiting for the definition of the other 50,000 dictionaries all over the world...

Seriously, all dictionaries are made up of helpless attempts to classify something that isn't able to classify.
that is the stupidest thing I've seen today. All words are up for grabs because you can't handle them. :idiot:
That's the stupidest comment I've seen in my whole life. Put your straw man back in your sack and contribute with some real arguments without the need of litigating everywhere. Because I do not have the time for this war games.

You asserting things have a problem doesn't show the problem. What is not real about my arguments? Can you point out what is deficient? Evidently not. Anyone that can read this and knows from the term sees that you have posited strawmen as if makes some kind of point. You cannot address points so this is what you do.

You're being argumentative as fuckall but if someone counters you you have to paint it in emotional terms 'war games'.

You are making points you can't support. I'm a bad person for litigating? You're just sputtering.

That's accountant thinking. I don't have to measure things to assess them. This is not mathematics.

where is the error? You said definitions are hopeless attempts to 'classify'. No, a 'definition' means to 'make definite'. Note 'finite' in that, 'to limit'. 'Classify' doesn't even apply here. There is more than one problem in what you said. Did you mean something other than what you wrote? We can all read what you did write and I challenge you to show a problem of my reading.

Clearly you do, this post evidences that.

an anarchic epistemology needs responsability too, a solemn decisionism is not even 'l'art pour l'art'.

It is me analyzing what you wrote. You said bigger. that is to quantify the one thing vs the other.

That's you, not me, said that. I don't think of it that way. I look at the content as an object. sometimes more is more. sometimes it doesn't sum, for me.

No. I think it's the essence of art. To say 'this is good' and carry it out.

edit: which btw requires a good deal of arrogance
