Doh, until now I thought bugs in DAWs are permanent features...
My vote goes for Bitwig then :)

Pro Tools is always solid for me experience wise be it a full blown HD rig or my old M-Powered 7 setup

I'll get called a liar for this one but honestly for me Live has been very stable

I use a few other bits and bobs but they are the ones which I use daily, I do not use many/very minimalistic virtual instrument and also don't have that many processing and effects sitting in the old plug-ins folder. That should not really make any difference though.

I am on and I am not going any further than Pro Tools 9 regarding doing business with AVID, Dissapointment has slowly but surely turned into despise. I have a (non-commercial) license for REAPER and Im going to seriously give Samplitude a proper demo. As not just yet but I will have to find a replacement in the long run, Those I know that use it seem to never mention crash issues which is further backed up by siriusbliss, Not dug into REAPER enough to even try to crash it on purpose (yet) and if I do go with REAPER then I would need to buy a proper license. Love pro tools, despise AVID. Great place to be

Peace and best to all as always :)

Yeah, for me, Pro Tools definitely wins hands-down for having encountered the fewest bugs.

the OP kind of confounds bugs with stability issues.

I encounter one, kinda annoying bug in Cubase 5.5.3. and one thing since that if it's a feature, I have yet to imagine what it's good for, maybe a bug. There will be other bugs people notice I don't. But it's about as solid as I would even expect a plugins host to be.

The majority of problems with stability with hosts is pilot error of some form.

Never had any crash problems with Reason, even the betas that I tested.

Reaper 32-bit is solid here - Windows 7 64-bit. Reaper 64-bit with 32-bit plugs, not so much. My advice to those who are having problems, avoid bit bridging plugins.

I'm using 100% x64 plugins in Reaper 4.xx x64 on OSX 10.7

There are some x86 plugins on my system and they do get scanned, but due to the "bugginess" of every Bit Bridge I ever used, I never bother loading them up anymore.

However, I have experienced NO crashes what-so-ever. Never not no-how nay nuffin'.

The outdated LE version of Geist and XLN's Addictive Drums crashed Reaper when I had a decently sized time selection (not just 2 sec or something) in Loop mode and hit the various Pads or loaded up new samples.
Not instantly, but certainly.

I'm sure these are plugin related issues, as Battery and Superior Drummer show none of that loop-and-crash behaviour.

Maybe you've got a bridged 32-bit plugin loaded? The Bit Bridge 'kills' key commands to the main window when in focus.
(Because it's a separate program, a different process, not an "extension" loaded into the Reaper process.)

Exactly, that's not normal. Unfortunately for you, I can't find anything wrong with the zooming.
Maybe some Reaper update screwed up your zooming preferences? You should check them.

I think if you have your PC 'clean' (only use up to date drivers and legitimate software) most commercial DAWS are pretty stable. I have no problems with Cubase (on 6.5) and never really had a problem with Live 8, despite constantly reading about how unstable it was….The 64 bit Live 8 seems rock solid (despite being a fairly early beta). I suspect it 99% of cases DAW crashes are dodgy 'plug ins' rather than the actual DAW.

Reaper is my DAW of choice, but I haven't tried enough to know about the others, though my brief experience with Cubase and Live were both OK, I just didn't like their workflows. Anyway, Reaper has been (admittedly) a little hit and miss in the bug department, but rock solid in stability. Provided you use stable plugins and keep the mixing of 32 and 64 bit to a minimum, it should never crash. It is also updated very regularly, and they do a great job in addressing issues. They're very close to having a knock out product - maybe (hopefully) in version 5, but for my money, even now, there's nothing that can contend, overall.

@32/bridge: No but that's a good call. A lot of people do have that problem. This is really frustrating because I can be literally mousing the main window and hitting the spacebar and it's like W.........T.............F......K...........! I know what you mean about main focus, if it was that, I'd be being a bigger tard than usual.

@zooming: I suspect somethings as such. BUT not too long ago I did a completely clean install of reaper because some odd things going on and it's like it's cursed. Considering that reaper doesn't install like a "normal" daw (using a bunch of registry and such) I can't understand why.

Anyways, thanks for the suggestions but it's something stranger than that and considering that I've had really good luck and then BANG bad luck it's.....just.....weird. I'm fried over it. Years and years. I don't care if it's my fault anymore or what, I'm just tired.

I have S1 and I am certain it's buggy. Just this morning I had Corona on one track and Geist on the other.

I loaded Tokyo Dawns compressor on the Geist track and Corona started sounding modulated.

I know all the effects a compressed signal may have on the perception of your other instruments but there is nothing of the sort going on here. This was clearly some kind of phasing issue that it was playing with.

I exported my mix without TDR and then I was going to export it with TDR so I could record this behaviour but it stopped doing it after the first export.

There are lots of little funny things like this that It does.

Anyone else swith DAWS because of glitchy behaviour and to what?

What is your most reliable DAW?

Sami
Reason is my most reliable DAW if you want to call it that. Sonar X1 isn't as bugy as previous versions but you have to know how not to make it act up. Rewire is a big pita in Sonar and is the reason I bought Live. I love Live but it does crash sometimes but again I know how to make it crash and its usually plug in related usually from bad installs.

I agree. I have used Logic 8 and 9, Logic Express 8, Garageband, Reaper and Ableton Live Lite on my computer and they all ran like champs. They all have little bugs here and there, but you learn work arounds and wait for an update. all is well.

Contrast to my Reaper installation on a PC at work. We do HIV prevention outreach online with that computer and constantly deal with viruses and crap like that (outreach is primarily on sites that are for sex hookups). Reaper never had a chance; ran crappy from the second I installed it, and never recovered. After we retired that PC from active service, I did a fresh Windows install, and reinstalled Reaper. guess what: it runs perfectly. :)

Cubase 6.5 32bit is my main host.. REAPER x64 is close behind in stability..

Logic 9.1.7 and Ableton Live 8.4 has so far been *rock solid* in my studio.
