Is it alarming that reason is being sold off continuously in the used marketplace?

I didn't vote because I have no clue what is causing the sudden appearence of lots of Reason copies in the Mrketplace, nor do I own Reason. However, I believe a lot of Reason users have been wanting to get their hands on plugins in their favorite DAW. The obvious choice, before the RE announcement, seemed to be the implementation of VST. What they got, instead, was a propietary format with which they still couldn't use "regular" plugins. And then there's trouble with license transfers (or lack thereof), free plugins which turn out to be paid in RE, and not as many developers as one maybe hoped for.
From a distance, it doesn't seem to make any difference - you were limited in your choices, and you still are, right? But I can imagine that many users just felt that Propellorheads were just milking them instead of giving them the flexibility they wanted. And thus turn away from Reason.
You on the other hand, knew what you were getting into when buying Reason. The (limitations) of REs were accounted for in your decision. That makes for a different mindset than exsisting users I think.
But again, it's all pure speculation. Maybe some sellers will chime in.

Reason 4 rewired in Reaper is the best way I've ever used Reason (I can even automate it within Reaper!!).
It's like a huge modular plugin and I love it this way.
IMO, the way RE are sold at the moment is just a way to make a lot of cash very quickly, just like NI started with the Korepacks.
The only thing I'd like from Propellerhead would be to half the price of Recycle, but that's not likely to happen.

I too have noticed a lot of used copies for sale not only on KVR, but also on Props forum among others. I had tried out Reason 6's demo a while back and thought it was pretty great. Had great workflow, was lightweight and easy to use, and Blocks is one of the best songwriting tools I've ever come across in any DAW. However, I kept wanting to use my bag of VIs that I've built over the years. No matter the benefits of Reason, it got to be much easier to just use another DAW that supported those and could flow seamlessly from writing into pre-production into tracking into mixing without me feeling like I was compromising one of those aspects. Unfortunately, REs won't alleviate this issue for me - there aren't enough and getting into them is prohibitively expensive. I really wish Props had just added support for VST or AU and created a sandbox environment like Bitwig is supposedly doing. It would've really opened Reason up to a whole new market.

I have also seen a lot of people selling Zebra recently...doesnt mean its not great. I think it may be the recesion and all the no-brainer deals tempting people....

Personaly I think 'Re' is a waste of time (I have reason 6.5) and wont be bothering and it has made me less interested in Reason asit goes off down that road - All I wanted was to be able to use the 'rack' as a VST in cubase (sans rewire), they should make this an option, just give us the 'rack' as a VST-

Reason is too expensive for what it offers, that's why many people sell it. It should cost half the price. Or at least support vst, like any other daw and similar (orion, FL, garageband etc.). The others (majority, i guess) are happy with reason and its well known limitations: these users don't need anything else but reason and, maybe, few (expensive) REs. This is PH policy: if you own Reason you have allyo need. That is not true, but you can always believe it.

As someone who is seriously considering selling my copy of Reason, my main thinking is that I have too many plugins in VST format and that the ones I would really miss if I went with Reason as my main host, namely: Alchemy, Geist and Kontakt will not be appearing in that environment any time soon or ever due to the limitations of the SDK. Rewire is not an option I would want to use, as I just don't like it.

Add in the no resale of RE's and lack of PDC then it becomes even less likely that I'll keep it...yet, at the moment, I keep hesitating to put it up for sale as there are a number of things I like, mainly Malstrom, Pulveriser and the Pulsar RE (pretty much the only RE I have tried that would really have been a 'no-brainer' purchase, were it not free at the moment).

Overall, it's a fun environment to play in but I don't find the sequencer to be overly great and often struggle to take anything beyond the four bar loop stage with it. I guess I'm just waiting to see what the next few months brings in terms of REs and whether the Props change any of their plans or policies when the initial newness of REs has passed. I doubt much will change and I should really just sell it...

I would sell mine too if it wasn't for lots of music finished and unfinished still in there.
Yes I'm one of those really opposed to the RE rules implementations. That's all about my position.

Live 64 has become super solid. Studio One is giving a refreshing way of making music. U-HE is giving us amazing plugins. BitWig is on its way. Reaper dirt cheap and powerful. Reason modularity is accessible via Rewire in your favorite DAW where you can use "out of this world VST" without paying twice.....

People were hoping for VST in Reason but not the way it has been done. You can see yourself from posts in here and in the PH forum as well.

So probably due to some of these facts and missed expectations, users that have been waithing for Reason to mature into a serious DAW are just tired of waiting and/or finance the PH business model.

If you are happy with the package, more power to you, but you should not be surprised by what's it could be the beginning of mass awareness of what money/customer/seller relationship shoud be.

I don't think this is the "one dollar" thing. You don't sell one of your beloved tool just to make money and loose your work. Especially Reason users. If they do, the reason may be one of the above.

Enjoy your Reason and never mind those that are looking for more freedom.

just to have a shot at me. sigh.
Geez man, relax. It's a poll, for Christ's sake. People read the question at hand and responded.

You: "Do you think it's alarming how often Reason is being sold?"
Respondent: "No."

Seems like an appropriate response. They answered the question you posted. No need to get up in arms that they didn't read your outrageously long post before answering the poll you opened.

If you want modular you could try Mux instead of reason. Before trying Mux i really considered Reason again. Not that that i ever would have bothered with the reasons ttoz posted. No crossgrades means shedding out so much cash just to get not even close to what i have now
Also, i haven't seen one string of hope that Props would even consider upgrading the sequencer part!

You've made many good points and I feel the PDC issue is a big and obvious enough one that it will be handled in good time. The other issues may not have the same broad appeal.

I think I have Reason 4 or something, and passed on upgrading to 6 when they offered it for next to nothing.

I would never consider using Reason again unless they added support for VST/AU external plugins. Offering REs was just a slap in the face with a large salmon. Reminds me, I'm kinda hungry.
