A brief noodle with the Oxium demo...

http://www.altruistmusic.com/soundfiles/oxiumnoodle.mp3

using these settings:

Image

using le masque as the sole mod source, adjusting the mod matrix amounts and cutoffs on both filters manually by mouse while it played, and using the mod randomizer at maximum.

(Interesting that the mod master spread randomizer actually has a fairly recurring pattern after four measures... which is a GOOD thing in my book!)

Stereo spread starts off at max and is tapered down to zero (as in the image) at the end. No effects of any sort - pure Oxy.

Lovely synth! I so don't need a new softsynth, but this one is tempting...

Got to say, this is a lovely synth. It sounds superb, especially in the bass and mid registers, and I sold Saurus in order to get it (Oxium utterly declasses it in my opinion). Love the UI, that orange is way cool, and since it's not a bright, glaring orange, I find it rather pleasant to work with.

Thanks for releasing it without dongle CP, and for an unbelievable price as well. Any hope for the others (nudge Synthix nudge)?

One thing about Le Masque, don't know if it's been mentioned: working with it is a little fiddly and slightly laggy, and mouse clicks are sometimes very hit and miss. Don't know if this can or will be improved, but it would be nice. It's one of the things that make this synth special.

Great work, Xavier! :tu:

Hi André,

Thanks for the demo :) :tu:

Tempting is the word, especially at 69€ intro price.

Then, I'll take this opportunity to discuss a bit the Master Spread Randomizer :

The fact that you can still recognize a reccuring pattern is given by Le Masque modulations. Actually the Master Spray just add a true Choatic function that modifies all the paramaters targets of the Mod Matrix, in a relative way ( relative to the amounts specified ). So you only used the mask in the matrix mod, so here the Spray is only adding Chaotic variations to these modulations. With complex patches using more modulations, the Spray will interact with all the modulations, according to the ammount specified. Thats why you still recognize a kind of pattern : with extrem spray amounts however, together with big ammounts in the matrix mods, this function can really eventually become more choatic that one would want. Or exactly devastating as expected. With subtle ammounts both in the matrix and in the Spray this function will just provide subtle nuances and everchanging things, ie gentle chaos, ie .... life :)

Osx 10.6.8
Ableton 8.2.8
Oxium 0.9.3

Just a small bug report - on 1st run of Oxium full version in Ableton 8.2.8 it crashed Ableton. (without getting to open the gui) I restarted ableton, loaded it and it worked fine and asked me for serial number which I entered. So its now working fine.

Edit: It might have been to do with replacing the demo version and/or the gui changes I had made in the demo.

Thanks Ariston, glad you like it.

Yes, we're continuouly improving Le Masque, with a bit of experience you'll find it more handy to use, but its only the beginning of the version 2.0( the first was in our delay ) and we will certainly polish it over time. We need to take our time because its a pretty complex piece of software, and thus we are very carefull bout its evolution.

There's nothing planned atm for the 3 other Xils-Lab flagship synths regarding changing the protection scheme. The fourth one is dongleless, then we'll see.

Respect and good luck with it.. I'll await a RE version some day.

Thanks Theo,

Well regarding RE we just dont know atm.

Does anybody know how much Reason users there are in the world ?

This would be very interesting for us to know.

Thanks CrackBaby,

We'll never do C/R synths. I prefer dongles over C/R ( though I have to use both actually, so .... )

Ok not entering this old old KVR debate once more, anyway yes, Oxium is only serial protected so everyone should be happy. :)

Actually everyone can now have a taste of a Xils-Lab flagship synthesizer without having to take the dongle route. This was the most important for us.

For Oxium 0.9.3 full beta - Okay the crashes are worse than I thought earlier. I have my crash reports from Ableton 8.2.8 and Logic 9.1.7. I cant get Oxium to start now after a couple reinstalls and spending a half hour to fix it. It crashes as soon as dropped into a project. With vst, vst64, Au64 in 2 hosts.

Let me know if you want crash reports so I can pm you them.

Im running 0.9.2 and i tried using live without any issues. Im on windows though so maybe mac related. Im sitting here ready to hit "next" and install 0.9.3 but now im kind of nervous :D
I'll suffocate without my Oxium :(

Edit: Ok, so i had balls to install and luckily no crash when starting or loading it in Live 8.2.8.
This is on windows 7 64 bit, using 32 bit host.

To Crackbaby : Dont worry you can always revert to V 0.92 if anything turns bad.

To Jumpercable : Thanks for the report. Hmmm Its weird cos we have already many Logic and Live users and testers and sofar nothing that terrible happened. Could you please unistall all versions and install the V 0.92 ( wich should be on the iste in old installers ) and tell us if everything's fine with this one, wich is reported very stable by all users ?

And yes crash report would be usefull ( + please send them to me by email rather than in my PM box that is unfortunately 92% full :( )

I said the same thing! And then bought it! I had to spend all last week writing sea-chanties for work (I love my job!) but not that I have a license I can't wait to dig into it.

BTW, off topic, but I'm super loving your last to albums and I encourage everyone to go to http://altruistmusic.com/ and check them out.

I agree. I still had to scratch my head at all the hoopla around Saurus. :? Not even in the same class as any of the XILS products IMO.
