I honestly couldn't tell you if its as good as the musicman version, since I've never played one but its definitely a high quality guitar. The Special versions where made in Japan, but the Japanese factory has since closed down due to the Tsunami & AFAIK production has been moved to Mexico. I wanted to get a Japanese made Special before they're all sold out. There's not too many of them available, especially here in the UK.Uncle E wrote:Agreed! I love that color with the maple fretboard!Peevy2000 wrote:Absolutely beautiful guitar. Its that lovely to look at, that my girlfriend wasn't a bit annoyed at me buying it.
Is it as good as the Music Man versions? Those are excellent. Where's this guitar made? But its not only nice to look at, its sooooo easy to play, the neck is very smooth & your hand just glides up & down it with ease & know problem with sticky sweaty hands thanks to the oiled finish. The fretboard is just the right radius, the 12" at the top is great for chording & the 16" flatness of the fretboard when you get up towards the 12th fret makes playing lead a breeze.
hehehe, I love it. I'm not much of an EVH fan, either, but I adore the Dimarzio Norton, which is their EVH pickup, and that made me take notice of how much his tone stands out from the hyper detailed EMG shredders of the world.Just for the record, I wouldn't really consider myself a Van Halen fan. After getting the EVH 5150 III, I thought I'd check out some other EVH gear & I was on the look out for a more shred-able guitar. But not the usual Ibanez or LTD, jumbo frets, super thin neck type shred guitar most people seem to go for...something a bit different. The Wolfgang Special ticks all the boxes for me. I guess you could say I'm an EVH Gear fan
I love this guitar so much, I might eventually get a stealth version as well:

Maybe have a bit of a Yin Yang theme going

Yeah, that black one is nice! Is yours white? It looks cream or yellow in the pictures. I like that the solid color models don't have veneers, I'm always concerned about what veneers do to the resonance of the body.

Mines Vintage white so no need to worry about it going that old off white colour since it already is. Yeah I've read most of those comments & everything else I could find online about the Special version before purchasing, because there isn't a dealer anywhere near me, I had to go on reviews & opinions on forums. Its a really great guitar but you do have to tighten up your fingering a bit due to the smaller than normal neck but I think this can be seen as more of an enhancement than a hindrance in the long-run.Uncle E wrote:Yeah, that black one is nice! It looks like there's gonna be a few more colours available in the Wolfgang Specials when they resume production. I don't normally go for Sunburst Colour Guitars but the Black Cherry Sunburst looks real nice:

Nice, I am not at all a sunburst man either, That one however seems to my eye to be a quilted maple top with a small amount of bleed into the black, Is it bound with white/cream or is it just the picture making it seem that way? Either way the neck is unbound and killer. Seems like You are going to have three of em then
And why not? If it is the guitar model which suits You the most then its a no-brainer getting the higher quality builds in IMveryhumbleHO
Nice indeed and keep us GAS guzzlers posted
Dean
Edit: The Black is a complete No-Brainer as it will play the same but have a different more mid-range focus IME than Your vintage white due to the wood choice and Yes AGREE 100% they will sit togehter hung up well on the eye also which is a bonus

Yeah I think it is a Black Cherry Burst quilted maple veneer top & it does have white binding round the edge. As much as I like it I don't think I could afford 3 Specials, wouldn't go down too well with the other half, if you know what I mean.Dean Aka Nekro wrote:Nice, I am not at all a sunburst man either, That one however seems to my eye to be a quilted maple top with a small amount of bleed into the black, Is it bound with white/cream or is it just the picture making it seem that way? Yes I've read that the Stealth version does have a more mid-range dark tone than the others, because of the ebony rosewood fretboard.Dean Aka Nekro wrote: Edit: The Black is a complete No-Brainer as it will play the same but have a different more mid-range focus IME than Your vintage white due to the wood choice and Yes AGREE 100% they will sit togehter hung up well on the eye also which is a bonus

I understand regarding the other half part, Its fair enough, Good to hear that You have heard the same qualities of the Stealth that I predicted (I did not look at any reviews or write ups on it), Just that combination of tone woods are well known for it and the snap/spank of You're special it will be a great contrast whilst playing the same. So in this case if You are able to convince Her that 2 company but agree that three is a crowd
It should work out just fine.
Just out of curiosity and as long as You do not mind Me asking of course; Where abouts are You based here in the UK? I am in the north-west of england, greater manchester area. Quite literally a 10 minute drive to manchester airport, If You are familar with where that is

Maybe I might do so, I have never been a fan of any of the 'madchester'/manchester stuff except perhaps some of The Smiths but more for Morrisey's humourous lyrics than the sound perhaps. It has put a few dark ideas in my head though of what I could potentially sonically murder from alot of those bandsUncle E wrote:Let's hear some metal covers of The Stone Roses!Dean Aka Nekro wrote:I am in the north-west of england, greater manchester area.

I find this review mildly amusing. EVH left Kramer because he stated they were making offshore copies and he wanted them to be all american. So he jumped ship to Ernie Ball. The only part of the EB design that was truely "EVH" was the worn in neck. He wasn't happy when EB was selling chinese knock offs (OLP's) and not being able to keep up with american production so he went to Peavey who made minor modifications for their version of the same guitar. Fender purchased Kramer guitars and gave EVH a sweetheart deal with his own brand name.

Japanese guitars are on par with American ones these days and far above OLP. I wouldn't want a Mexican one, though.

Yeah you know how it is Dean. I'll probably have to sell my Ibanez AXS32 & If I realllly have to, my Fender Modern Payer Tele Plus. As nice as the Ibanez is, I don't play it much at all these days. But I really like my Tele Plus, always wanted a Tele & never got round to getting one till a few months ago.Dean Aka Nekro wrote:I understand regarding the other half part, Its fair enough, Good to hear that You have heard the same qualities of the Stealth that I predicted (I did not look at any reviews or write ups on it), Just that combination of tone woods are well known for it and the snap/spank of You're special it will be a great contrast whilst playing the same. I live In Northern Ireland & the closest sort of half decent music shop is about 36 miles away. Its a pretty decent shop but they mostly just stock the usual: eg. Fender, Gibson & Ibanez. My local music shop mostly stocks budget guitars & amps like Westfield, Ashton, maybe the odd Epiphone, a lot of Roland Cubes & Not a Valve amp in sight.
Thanks Dean & all the very best to you & yours too
